Chapter I — The Gift of Frankincense

Long before a fragrance is blended, nature begins its work.

Frankincense comes from the Boswellia sacra tree, one of the Arabian Peninsula’s most treasured natural resources.

The journey starts with a small, precise incision made in the bark. The tree responds by releasing a milky sap as a natural defense. Over the following days, that sap is exposed to the air, gradually hardening into translucent resin crystals—often called frankincense tears.

Only after the resin has fully matured does the harvester return to carefully collect each crystal by hand. The process is then repeated several times throughout the harvesting season, with later harvests often producing resin that is clearer and considered higher quality.

At House of Khayal, we source exceptional frankincense and continue its journey in our Emirati perfumery, where tradition, craftsmanship, and modern expertise come together to transform nature’s gift into precious fragrance.
