I can't believe that it has been almost 20 years since I captured this image at Yosemite's Valley View. What is eerie and tragic is the story behind this image http://www.donsmithblog.com. Seven climbers were stranded on the face of El Capitan (seen here with beautiful alpenglow light). Just beyond those pines in the center of the frame is El Capitan Meadow. On October 20, 2004, that meadow was a maze of television trucks and satellite dishes. Three climbers were rescued before darkness settled in (about 40 minutes after capturing this frame). What about the other 4? They had to spend the night on the face about two-thirds the way up with a powerful winter-like storm rapidly approaching. I recount the entire story in the blog.
