NDIS Changes Explained: Plan Variations vs Plan Reassessments
One of the most common questions we're hearing is: "Do I need a plan variation or a plan reassessment?"
While they can sound similar, they are different processes and understanding the difference can help you navigate changes to your NDIS plan more effectively.
Remember, every person's situation is different. If you're unsure what applies to you, seek advice from your support team or the NDIA.

Understanding the NDIS – Episode 1: Who Can Request a Plan Reassessment? 🎥
There’s been a recent change to who can request an unscheduled NDIS plan reassessment.
As of late August 2026, the request must come from the participant, their nominee, or their child representative. Support coordinators and recovery coaches can still help you prepare the evidence and navigate the process — we just can’t make the request for you.
In this short video, Justine breaks down what’s changed and where to get help if you’re unsure.
The process has changed, but support is still available. 💬
This is general information only. For advice about your own plan, speak with your support coordinator, recovery coach, LAC or the NDIA.

NDIS update 💛
The National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill has passed Parliament. It becomes law once it receives Royal Assent.
Today brings up big feelings for a lot of people — worry, frustration, uncertainty. Those feelings make sense, and you’re allowed to have them.
A few things worth holding onto:
Your voice made a difference. The Bill that passed is not the Bill that was first introduced. After thousands of submissions from people with disability, families, advocates and organisations, the Government agreed a number of changes — including clearer wording so people aren’t expected to keep trying treatments once they’ve already had all appropriate treatment, and tighter checks on how and when support funding can be reduced.
Concerns remain. Many in the disability community still don’t believe the legislation goes far enough. Real questions remain about eligibility, how support budgets change, and how decisions get made — and the impact will depend on the rules that follow.
Nothing changes overnight. Current eligibility and plans stay in place until specific changes begin, and they roll out in stages — for most people, at plan renewal rather than all at once. You don’t need to do anything today.
We’ve got you. YPYW will keep following the official updates and sharing clear, plain-English information as it comes — no jargon, no scare tactics, just what it means for you.
