Cam The Barber

I've been cutting hair for almost 11 years and no one ever believes me when I say it's never really about the hair. I got a message from a friend. Their dad was in hospital and hadn't had a proper shave in weeks. Didn't feel like himself. So I packed the tools and drove over. No mirror. No shop chair. Just a hospital bed, shave soap, a hot towel, and a cutthroat. Ten minutes in he was relaxed and enjoying the experience. His family said he looked so much better, and he even felt better. 3 things your barber notices but never mentions.

1. How long it's actually been since your last cut
You might say "just a few weeks", your barber already knows. The growth pattern, the shape breakdown, the neckline.. it tells the whole story before you open your mouth. They never correct you. They just get to work.

2. Whether you've been washing and maintaining it properly
Dry scalp, product buildup, dead ends a barber sees all of it the moment their hands go in. They know if you've been neglecting it. They'll never say it. They'll just quietly do more work than they charged you for.

3. Whether the last barber did a good job
Every barber inherits the work of whoever came before them. Uneven lines, a fade that was blended wrong, a shape that doesn't suit the face.. they see it immediately. They fix it without comment. They'd never throw another barber under the bus. But they notice.

They see everything. They just choose silence.
