🐶 Happy International Dog Day! 🐾

Today we're celebrating the loyal companions who greet us at the door, keep us active, and somehow always know when we need a cuddle.

Whether they're a tiny lap dog, a goofy Labrador, a hardworking Kelpie or a gentle Golden Retriever, dogs have a special way of making every day a little brighter. ❤️

At Health Wise Chiropractic, we know that many of our patients are proud dog owners—and let's be honest, our four-legged friends are pretty good at getting us out for a walk (even when we'd rather stay on the couch!).

📸 We'd love to meet your best mate!

Share a photo of your dog in the comments and tell us:
🐾 Their name
🐾 Their breed (or best guess!)
🐾 One funny thing they do

We'll be spending the day admiring all the adorable faces! 🐕🐾

Happy International Dog Day from the team at Health Wise Chiropractic.

# # # 🏃‍♂️💥 Did Your Hamstring or ACL Really “Suddenly” Tear?

We often think of sports injuries as happening in one moment — a sprint, a landing, a sudden change of direction.

But what if that moment **wasn’t the beginning of the injury… but the final step?**

🧠 **New research is challenging the idea that hamstring strains and ACL tears are always purely “acute” injuries.**

Instead, repeated loading over time may gradually fatigue tissues through a process called **mechanical fatigue**.

Think of bending a paperclip repeatedly. It doesn’t need one huge force to break — repeated smaller loads can eventually cause failure.

The same concept may apply to biological tissues:

🔹 Repeated sprinting → cumulative hamstring loading
🔹 Repeated cutting & landing → cumulative ACL loading
🔹 Sudden increases in training → greater tissue stress
🔹 Inadequate recovery → less time for tissues to adapt

Eventually, an athlete may suffer an injury during a movement that looks completely normal.

# # # So what does this mean? 👇

Injury prevention isn’t just about avoiding one “bad” movement.

It’s about **building tissue capacity and managing the total load your body experiences.**

✅ Gradually increase training loads
✅ Allow adequate recovery
✅ Build strength and tissue capacity
✅ Monitor changes in sprinting, cutting and jumping volume
✅ Consider fatigue, biomechanics and individual factors

# # # 🏆 The big takeaway

**Some injuries that appear sudden may have been developing for weeks or months beforehand.**

Understanding this could help athletes move from **reacting to injuries → preventing them.**

🤕 **Living with Ongoing Muscle or Joint Pain? It Doesn't Have to Be Your New Normal.**

Whether it's nagging back pain, a sore shoulder, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow or persistent neck stiffness, musculoskeletal pain affects **1.71 billion people worldwide**—making it one of the leading causes of pain and disability.

The good news? There are evidence-based treatments that can help.

A large review of **18 clinical trials involving more than 1,400 patients** found that **laser therapy** can significantly reduce pain across a range of musculoskeletal conditions, including:

✔️ Low back pain
✔️ Neck pain
✔️ Knee osteoarthritis
✔️ Shoulder injuries
✔️ Tennis elbow
✔️ Carpal tunnel syndrome
✔️ Plantar fasciitis

So, how does laser therapy work?

Research suggests it may help by:

✨ Supporting your body's natural healing process
🩸 Improving circulation
🔥 Reducing inflammation
💪 Encouraging tissue repair
⚡ Helping calm pain signals

At **Health Wise Chiropractic**, we don't rely on one treatment alone. We combine evidence-based therapies—including chiropractic care, rehabilitation exercises, laser therapy, shockwave therapy and soft tissue treatment—to help address the underlying cause of pain and get you back to doing what you enjoy.

🚩 It might be time to get checked if:

❌ Your pain has lasted more than a few days
❌ It keeps coming back
❌ You're avoiding activities you enjoy
❌ It's affecting your sleep or work
❌ You're relying on pain medication just to get through the day

The earlier you address a problem, the better the chance of preventing it from becoming a long-term issue.

💬 **We'd love to know...**

**If you could get rid of one ache or pain today, what would it be?**

💻 **Sitting All Day? Your Neck and Back Know It… Even If You Don't!**

If your day looks something like this...

🚗 Drive to work
💻 Sit at a desk for hours
🚗 Drive home
📱 Relax on the couch scrolling your phone...
..your spine is spending most of the day in one position.

And research shows that's a problem.

A recent review of clinical studies found that taking **short movement breaks every 30–50 minutes** can significantly reduce neck, shoulder and back discomfort.

The biggest surprise?

🚶 Simply standing up isn't always enough.

The most effective movement breaks included:

✅ Brisk walking
✅ Climbing a few flights of stairs
✅ Neck and shoulder mobility exercises
✅ Chin tuck (deep neck) exercises
✅ Shoulder blade squeezes
✅ Gentle spinal stretches

Why?

After around **40–50 minutes of sitting**, the muscles supporting your spine begin to fatigue. Blood flow slows, joints become stiffer and the muscles that help maintain good posture become less active.

The good news?

You only need **2–5 minutes of movement** to help interrupt that cycle.

💡 Try setting a timer every 45 minutes and spend a few minutes:

🚶 Walking around the office
🪜 Taking the stairs
🙆 Stretching your neck and shoulders
💪 Resetting your posture

Your spine—and your brain—will thank you!

At **Health Wise Chiropractic**, we help people across Sunbury and Melton who spend long hours sitting, driving or working at a computer. Combining regular movement with chiropractic care, posture advice and personalised exercises can help reduce stiffness, improve mobility and keep you moving comfortably.

💬 **Be honest...**

**How long do you usually sit before getting up?**

🟢 Less than 30 minutes
🟡 Around an hour
🔴 "I looked up and realised it's been three hours!" 😅

🧠 **Want Better Focus, Less Pain & More Energy? It Might Only Take 10–20 Minutes!** 🚶‍♀️💪

Can a short workout really sharpen your brain?

According to a review of **101 PubMed studies**, the answer is **yes!**

Researchers found that even **10–20 minutes of exercise** can improve focus, mental clarity and reaction time—while also helping reduce pain sensitivity and supporting a healthier spine.

The research showed:

🧠 Better concentration and decision-making
🚶 Improved posture and movement control
💪 Reduced neck and back stiffness
⚡ Increased energy and alertness
😊 Improved mood and stress management

Why does it work?

When you move, your body releases chemicals that help your brain perform at its best. Exercise also boosts blood flow, activates the muscles that support your spine and encourages your nervous system to function more efficiently.

If you spend your day:

🚗 Driving long distances
💻 Sitting at a computer
📱 Looking down at your phone
🏠 Working from home
..your brain and spine are both feeling the effects of prolonged sitting.

The good news?

You don't need to spend hours at the gym. Try:

✅ A **20–30 minute brisk walk**
✅ **10–20 minutes** of cycling or interval training
✅ Strength training **2–3 times per week**
✅ Standing up and moving for **2–3 minutes every hour**

Small, consistent movement can make a big difference to how you think, feel and move.

At **Health Wise Chiropractic**, we combine evidence-based chiropractic care with personalised exercise advice to help you move better, reduce pain and stay active—whether you're working in Melbourne, commuting from Sunbury or Melton, or simply trying to keep up with everyday life.

💬 **Question for you...**

🦵 **Strong Legs Today, Healthier Kids Tomorrow!**

Did you know your child's leg strength could be one of the best indicators of their future health?

A major study involving **more than 121,000 children and teenagers** found that stronger lower body muscles weren't just linked to better sporting performance—they were also associated with healthier body weight, improved metabolism and a lower risk of future health problems.

The research found children with stronger legs were more likely to have:

✅ Lower body fat
✅ Smaller waist circumference
✅ Better insulin sensitivity
✅ Lower risk of developing metabolic health issues later in life

The best part?

Building strong legs doesn't mean spending hours in the gym! 💪

For kids, strength develops naturally through fun activities like:

🏃 Running
🤸 Climbing playground equipment
⚽ Playing footy or soccer
🦘 Jumping and skipping
🏀 Basketball, netball or gymnastics
🎯 Obstacle courses and active play

The World Health Organisation recommends children are active every day and include muscle-strengthening activities at least **three days each week**.

At **Health Wise Chiropractic**, we believe healthy movement starts early. Encouraging children to stay active, move well and build confidence in their bodies can help set them up for a healthier future. Along with regular physical activity, good posture, quality sleep, nutritious food and appropriate healthcare all play an important role in helping kids thrive.

💬 We'd love to hear from you...
