Building Legacy at the Kitchen Table
To my UK, US, Aussie, and African parents raising global kids...
They told us “leave home to give your kids a better life.”
But nobody told us we’d have to FIGHT to keep our culture alive while doing it.
So here’s what “better” looks like in our house:
It’s 4pm in Sydney. 7am in London. 7am in Lagos.
And somewhere around the world, a parent just like me is sitting at a table, teaching their child how to count.
Not because we can’t afford tutors.
But because nobody else will teach them who they ARE while they learn what 2+2 is.
My son learns math AND that his ancestors were kings.
My daughter learns phonics AND that her hair is her crown.
We’re not just raising kids who can read and write.
We’re raising kids who know where they come from... so they know where they’re going.
This is how we build generational wealth.
Not just in the bank.
In the MIND.

I’m softer than my mum was.
I’m more ‘gentle’ than I planned
But I’m still Nigerian.
Still praying, still cooking my Sunday rice and stew.
Diaspora life is finding balance.
