*"ঘড়ি হাতে রাজা!"**
এক সময় ঘড়ি ছিল শুধুমাত্র রাজাদের বিলাসবহুল জিনিস। ১৬শ শতকে ইউরোপে প্রথম হাতঘড়ির উদ্ভব হয়, আর তখন এগুলো ছিল একেবারে রাজকীয় ফ্যাশনের অংশ। বলা হয়, ফ্রান্সের রাজা **লুই চতুর্দশ** নাকি এমন একটা হাত ঘড়ি পরতেন, যা দেখে সময় বোঝার চেয়ে বেশি বুঝত তার রাজকীয় অহংকার!
আর সবচেয়ে মজার ঘটনা ঘটে **নেপোলিয়ন**–এর সঙ্গে। একবার নেপোলিয়ন এক সভায় হঠাৎ হাত ঘড়ির দিকে তাকালেন, সবাই ভাবল হয়তো তিনি সময় দেখছেন। পরে জানা গেল, তিনি আসলে নিজের হাতের মাংসপেশির সৌন্দর্য দেখছিলেন—ঘড়ি ছিল শুধু বাহানা!
আর ভারতের রাজারা? তারা তো এক কদম এগিয়ে! হায়দরাবাদের নিজাম নাকি এত বেশি দামি ঘড়ি কিনতেন যে ব্রিটিশ কর্মকর্তারাও হিংসে করতেন। একবার তিনি একটা ঘড়ি কিনেছিলেন যার ভেতরে ছিল ছোট ছোট যন্ত্রমানব, যারা ঘণ্টা বাজাতো আর নাচতও!
