My sweet Abuelita,

You came to Canada alone from Ecuador with courage, faith, and a dream for your family. Through sacrifice, endless tears, hard work, and endless love, you built a life full of opportunities and blessings for all of us.
Because of you, generations of your family have been able to thrive.

You helped raise me and shaped so much of who I am. You taught me faith not only through your words, but through the way you lived. You taught me hospitality, grace, patience, generosity, and what it means to truly love people well. You shared your gifts with me—your creativity, your cooking, your sewing, your art, your healing hands, and your ability to make everyone feel welcomed and cared for.

You gave so much of yourself to the people you loved. Your life was one of sacrifice, service, and quiet yet undeniable strength. Your prayers covered our family every day, and I know we are all standing in the blessings of those prayers.

You were gentle and kind, yet fiercely strong. The most resilient woman I have ever known. The way I love, nurture, care for others, and pour into the world comes from you. Your heart lives on in me. Every meal shared, every act of kindness, every prayer whispered, every person welcomed at my table carries a piece of your legacy.

Thank you for helping raise me. Thank you for loving me so deeply. Thank you for showing me what the love of God looks like in human form.

I will miss you more than words can say, but I will carry you with me always.

Te amo para siempre, Abuelita. 🤍🕊️🌹

Although I was born into Catholicism, I was never taught to pray out loud. In my current faith community, it is highly encouraged. I remember initially feeling embarrassed and thinking, absolutely not. It took me a year before I could even gather the courage to say one small prayer with someone. There was such a choke on my ability to vocalize my faith. But it was actually a choke on my ability to speak up about the truth, clarity and conviction. And that can be scary! But there is freedom on the other side ⚔️

Some of the greatest breakthroughs in my faith have come through spoken prayer and intercession—whether it was others praying over me or me praying for others. It has been such a life-changing experience in lifting burdens, healing my heavy heart and being overcome with thanksgiving and grace. It can feel clumsy and awkward at first, but it is such a powerful way of allowing the Holy Spirit to work through you.

It’s something you have to practice. Most people aren’t comfortable with it from the start. This is part of developing confidence in your authority in Christ, learning to protect your spirit, and interceding in faith for the protection of others as well.

Genuine spoken prayer can help us express our faith, agreement, and encouragement. It can serve as a bold declaration in the spirit, helping us stand against personal struggles. It can release emotional burdens and foster a deeper, more intimate connection with God. Confessing also within trusted groups also fosters unity and allows us to learn from one another.

“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”— Matthew 18:19–20 (NIV)
