But dry hair often does not show your true pattern.

Type 4 hair usually needs water, hydration, and proper cleansing to reveal its natural coils and definition. When the hair is dry or coated with buildup, the pattern can look hidden, shrunken, or undefined.

That does not mean there’s no curl pattern. It often means the hair needs hydration first.
