At least 70 passengers narrowly escaped death today following a multi-vehicle accident on the Yaoundé-Douala highway. The incident involved a Finex transport bus and two heavy trucks near the Boumnyebel Sika stretch.

The driver of the 70-seater Finex bus is being praised for his quick thinking and skill. According to witnesses, when the collision between the two heavy trucks occurred, the bus driver swiftly diverted the vehicle into the nearby bush. His rapid reaction prevented a direct collision and saved the lives of everyone on board.

Fortunately, no fatalities were recorded in the accident. However, the heavy trucks are currently blocking the middle of the road, causing a total traffic standstill on the busy highway.

Travellers are warned that the road between Yaoundé and Douala is currently blocked as authorities work to clear the wreckage.

Eight people are reported to have died when a 19-seater bus collided with a 70-seater bus while transporting passengers from Bamenda to Bafoussam Sunday, May 10.

A source told MMI News three people died while being taken to the Mbouda District Hospital, and five others passed away at the hospital.

All other occupants of the 19-seater bus were hospitalized, and it remains unknown if anyone was injured in the 70-seater bus, which sustained minor damage at the front.

The cause of the collision remains undetermined.

A concerned citizen who arrived at the Mbouda District Hospital with accident victims decried the neglect of the facility, which he believed limited its ability to offer urgent care to the injured.

"What I witnessed yesterday was disastrous. It was so shameful," he said.

According to him, there was no electricity at the hospital, and the standby generator was off due to lack of fuel.

"When we asked questions, they said the generator had been working since morning and petrol was finished. I was so devastated that we keep suffering this. That is the District Hospital in Mbouda, and I can tell you the place is not well taken care of. The people in charge have been neglecting it so much," he said.

The state-owned hospital, he said, looks visibly neglected by its management. He urged authorities to do something to improve the state of the Mbouda District Hospital.
