It saddens me to admit that not only craft shops but many other small businesses will close their doors and become non existent in the near future.
It's not only the cost of living to blame but large corporate companies like temu/shein/Ali express for example who sell low standard, but extremely cheap items and supplies, so many times over the last few months have folk mentioned about the large amounts of craft supplies they order from them, sadly us small traders can't compete with these prices ( although in fairness my supplies are not expensive some cheaper ) and needless to say high streets are becoming empty and desolate, yes low prices but also low quality large companies mass producing and also copying people's original works making millions and top ceo's getting huge pay rises while workers are payed a pittance and us smaller traders closing our doors as bills rise and footfall In the shops decreasing making it impossible for us to keep going.
What advantages are there to using your local high street shops ? You are supporting local keeping businesses active in the community, a personal shopping experience, friendly staff advice, craft workshops/classes and walking away with your purchases the same day not waiting a week or longer for delivery.
Maybe a big ask but shopping local would be more of an advantage to the community keeping shops open instead of boarded up
