Coming towards the end of my year with MNU, 🥹 I’ve been revisiting some of the lectures that I know will be particularly valuable in my future work with women and weight loss, especially through perimenopause, menopause and beyond.

This lecture really stood out to me.

Martin asks: “If not dieting, then what?”

Because when a woman says:

“I’m gaining weight.”
“I need to lose my belly fat.”
“I’ve got a wedding in 12 weeks.”

It’s very easy to jump straight into calorie restriction and tracking.

But sometimes we need to step back before we move forward.

Consistent eating.
Adequate nutrition.
Regular movement.
Good sleep.
Stress management.
Learning to manage emotions around food.

I often hear:

“Every time I stop tracking, I gain weight.”

But perhaps the answer isn’t to track harder.

Perhaps it’s about building the skills, women often are under fueling , it’s about consistency and confidence to eventually not need the tracker to feel in control.

Fat loss can absolutely be an appropriate goal, but the foundations matter.

Sustainable change isn’t about what you do for 12 weeks. It’s about what you can continue doing afterwards.

Another reason I’m so grateful for everything I’m learning through MNU. 📚

🦴 4 simple ways to support your bone health

Bone health becomes increasingly important as we move through perimenopause and menopause but there’s plenty we can do to support our bones throughout life.

☕ Be mindful of caffeine 💚very high intakes can increase calcium loss, so keep it sensible and make sure you’re getting enough calcium.

🥛 Prioritise protein + calcium 💚protein supports muscle and bone health, while calcium is essential for maintaining bone strength. Vitamin D is also important for calcium absorption.

🏋️‍♀️ Move & strength train 💚aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate activity each week, plus strength based exercise at least twice a week. Weight bearing and resistance exercise are particularly beneficial for bones.

🍷 Keep alcohol moderate 💚drinking too much can increase the risk of osteoporosis and fractures.

And don’t forget the bigger picture: a varied, balanced diet rich in fruit and vegetables, plenty of vitamins and minerals, good quality sleep and regular movement all contribute to overall health and healthy ageing.

Small, consistent habits can make a big difference. 💪🦴

✨ MICRONEEDLING ✨

One of the most effective treatments for improving skin texture, firmness, and overall skin health.

Microneedling works by creating controlled micro channels within the skin, stimulating your body’s natural healing response and encouraging the production of collagen and elastin, the proteins responsible for keeping skin firm, smooth, and youthful.

🌿 Benefits include:

✔ Fine lines and wrinkles
✔ Acne scarring
✔ Enlarged pores
✔ Uneven skin texture
✔ Stretch marks
✔ Dull, tired looking skin

Following treatment, it is normal to experience redness, warmth, and mild tightness for up to 24 hours, similar to a mild sunburn.

At Scullion Skin Clinic, this is not a “one-size-fits-all” beauty facial. Every client receives a professional assessment to ensure the treatment is appropriate for their skin concerns and goals.

📋 First-time clients must book a Skin Consultation before any advanced facial treatment. This allows me to assess your skin, review any contraindications, and create a personalised treatment plan. A patch test may also be required.

📩 Private message to book your consultation or to find out if Microneedling is right for you.☘️💚

A good night’s sleep doesn’t start when your head hits the pillow. 🌙

Your evening routine can help signal to your body and brain that it’s time to slow down.

✨ Dim the lights as the evening progresses
🍵 Enjoy a calming herbal tea
🍽️ Try not to have a very heavy meal immediately before bed
📱 Reduce screens and scrolling before bedtime
🧘‍♀️ Give yourself some quiet time to unwind

It doesn’t have to be complicated. Consistency matters more than creating the “perfect” bedtime routine.

And if you’re navigating menopause and your sleep has changed, it’s worth looking at the bigger picture too hormones, lifestyle, nutrition, stress and your daily habits can all play a part.

With temperatures rising, hydration is something we shouldn’t overlook. ☀️💧

Hot weather means we generally lose more fluid through sweating, and if you’re exercising, travelling, drinking alcohol or spending more time outdoors, your needs can increase further. (nhs.uk)

Dehydration can leave you feeling tired, headachy, dizzy and generally not yourself. A simple check? Your urine should usually be a pale yellow colour. (nhs.uk)

💧 Keep a water bottle with you
💧 Sip regularly throughout the day
💧 Drink more when you’re sweating or exercising
💧 Remember that fluids from foods also contribute
💧 Be mindful of alcohol in hot weather

And remember hydration isn’t just about drinking more water. Your individual needs can vary depending on your activity, environment and health.

🍷 Alcohol affects more than just your liver.

What you drink can have an impact on your brain, heart, digestive system and pancreas and the effects can be particularly noticeable when alcohol starts affecting sleep, energy, appetite and overall wellbeing.

This isn’t about saying you can never enjoy a drink. It’s about understanding what’s happening in your body so you can make informed choices that support your health. 💚

🍷 Could your weekend drinking be affecting more than your waistline?

You can eat well, exercise and hit your protein goals all week but regular Friday and Saturday drinking can influence the things that matter for your progress.

Alcohol can affect:

☘️Sleep and recovery
☘️Muscle protein synthesis after exercise
☘️Training performance and motivation
☘️Appetite and food choices
☘️Fat oxidation while alcohol is being metabolised
☘️Triglycerides fats carried in your bloodstream that, when elevated, are associated with increased cardiovascular risk

One weekend won’t undo your progress.

But when the same pattern repeats week after week, these small effects can start to add up particularly when you’re trying to maintain muscle, improve body composition and recover well during perimenopause and menopause.

This isn’t about saying you can never drink.

It’s about understanding the trade offs and making choices that support the goals you’re working so hard for. 💚

💚Want to make healthy habits easier to stick to? Try habit stacking.

Instead of relying on motivation, attach a new habit to something you already do automatically.

For example:
☕ After making your morning coffee → take your supplements
🪥 After brushing your teeth → 5 minutes of stretching
🥗 After lunch → go for a 10-minute walk

Start small, be specific and give yourself time to make the habit automatic.

Consistency beats perfection. ☘️
