The school run's back, and the alarms are set again.
Everyone's talking about getting back into it, but here's what nobody mentions...
The body doesn't reset just because the calendar does.
If you're a parent, the summer holidays were never really a break. Different demands, different rhythm, but rarely less on your plate.
Broken sleep. No proper downtime. Meals eaten standing up. Days with no shape to them.
And now, straight into September, straight into routine, straight into work mode.
The body doesn't get the memo that it's supposed to feel refreshed. It's just swapped one kind of load for another.
If you've gone into this term already feeling behind before it's even started, that's not you failing to keep up.
That's a body that's been carrying a lot, quietly, for weeks, give yourself a break π

Summer's holidays are nearly done, and routine is about to return.
The school run starts again. Work picks up its pace. The slower weeks give way to busy ones.
It's the point in the year where a lot of people quietly let their body slip back down the list.
There's a better option.
Going into autumn with your body actually working well, rather than carrying the niggles you've been ignoring all summer, changes how the next few months feel.
That's what a Full Body MOT is for. A proper look at how everything's moving and working, so you start the busy season ahead instead of behind.
If your body's been on the to-do list for a while, this is a good moment to move it up.
You'll feel the difference when everything speeds up again π

Things that fail suddenly usually weren't sudden at all.
They were in the background for a long time first.
The body is no different.
The aches that seem to arrive out of nowhere have often been building for years, in the places nobody was paying attention to.
It's rarely bad luck.
It's usually just something that went unnoticed for too long.

Someone came to me about their lower back.
What they didn't expect was to start sleeping better.
We weren't treating their sleep. We never discussed it as a goal. But as the tension in their body started to release, other things shifted with it.
They were less wired in the evenings. They settled more easily. They woke up feeling like they'd actually rested.
This happens more than you'd think.
The body isn't a set of separate parts. The nervous system runs through all of it. When it's stuck in a state of holding and bracing, it affects far more than the bit that hurts.
Ease the tension the body's been carrying, and things you weren't even working on can start to improve.
People come in for the pain.
It's often the other changes that surprise them most.

Most healthcare waits for something to go wrong.
You feel fine, so nothing happens. You feel bad, so you get treated. Symptom appears, symptom gets managed.
It's reactive by design.
The trouble with the body is that the quiet phase, the one where nothing hurts yet, is exactly when the patterns are forming.
By the time there's a symptom, the body has often been compensating for a long time.
Prevention flips that around.
It's looking at how the body is actually working while things are still good. Catching the drift before it becomes damage.
Keeping the system aligned rather than rescuing it later.
As the summer winds down and life gets back into its rhythm, it's a sensible time to get ahead of things.
Far easier to start autumn well than to spend it catching up.

"I'm just getting older."
It's the explanation we reach for whenever the body does something we don't like.
The stiff knees. The dodgy back. The shoulder that won't do what it used to.
Must be my age.
Sometimes that's fair. But age gets blamed for an awful lot that isn't really about age at all.
Plenty of it is years of compensation. Old injuries that were never fully resolved. Posture that drifted. Tension that built up and never got released.
The number on your last birthday doesn't decide how your body feels.
How well it's been looked after has a lot more to say about that.
How often do you catch yourself blaming your age for something?

One of my regulars came in as a complete sceptic.
He'd been dragged in, more or less, by his partner. Arms folded, fairly sure none of this was for him.
He had no major pain. Just the usual stuff he'd written off as part of getting older and training hard.
We worked through it. Things he'd assumed were permanent started to ease. Movement he'd lost over time came back.
What changed his mind wasn't the pain going, because there wasn't much to begin with.
It was realising how much better he could feel when his body wasn't working around things.
He doesn't come in to get fixed now.
He comes in to stay ahead. To keep performing the way he wants to, for as long as he can.
Turns out the sceptics often end up the most consistent π

Summer is supposed to be the good bit.
More activity, more sun, more time with the people you like.
But it asks a lot of your body, usually all at once and usually without much warning.
A burst of activity after months of sitting. Long journeys. Broken routines. Carrying kids and kit for weeks on end.
Then you finally slow down, and that's when it lets you know.
Swipe through. If your body's been catching up with you lately, a few of these will look familiar π

I've spent most of my career letting the work speak for itself.
Head down, doing right by the person in front of me, trusting that word would spread.
And for a long time it did.
But putting what I actually do into words, sharing it openly, has been a different kind of challenge for me.
It's one thing to feel a pattern in someone's body and know how to help. It's another to explain it to people who've never laid on my therapist bed.
What's surprised me is how much it resonates.
People message to say they didn't know any of this was possible. That they'd assumed they just had to live with things.
That's the bit that keeps me posting.
The messages from people who didn't realise there was another option. Thank you for sharing them with me π

School holidays are wonderful, but they're also brutal on a parent's body.
Six weeks of lifting, carrying, hauling bags and car seats and tired children.
Days out that mean miles of walking. Beach trips with half the house on your back. Nights where nobody sleeps quite right.
It all adds up.
Parents are some of the people who put their own body lowest on the list. There's always someone else to sort out first.
But you're the one doing all the carrying. Literally.
If your back, neck or shoulders have been complaining since the holidays started, that's not you being soft.
That's a body doing a serious amount of work without anyone looking after it.
