Your “protective style” might actually be damaging your hair…
A protective style is supposed to help protect your hair from excessive manipulation, friction and breakage — but only when it’s done properly.
Here’s where things can go wrong:
• Too tight — excessive tension can cause breakage and damage around your edges.
• Installed on dry, neglected hair — putting your hair away doesn’t mean you can stop caring for it.
• Left in for too long — your hair and scalp still need cleansing, moisture and maintenance.
• Too much added hair — excessive weight can put unnecessary stress on your natural hair.
• No maintenance — protective styling isn’t “set it and forget it.”
Before your next protective style, make sure your hair is clean, moisturised, detangled and in good condition.
And remember: if it’s painful, pulling or causing excessive tension, it’s not protecting your hair.
Protective styling should help you retain your length — not cost you your edges.

Trims don’t make your hair grow. They help you KEEP the growth you already have.
Your hair grows from the scalp — trimming your ends doesn’t speed that process up.
So why trim?
• Removes split and damaged ends before they travel further up the hair shaft
• Helps prevent excessive breakage
• Keeps your ends looking fuller and healthier
• Makes your hair easier to manage
• Helps you retain more of the length you’re growing
Think of it like this: growth is happening at your roots, but length retention happens at your ends.
You don’t need to chop your hair every few weeks either. Your trimming schedule depends on the condition of your ends, your hair routine and how much manipulation your hair goes through.
Healthy hair isn’t just about growing it — it’s about keeping it.
