Indian Police Officer Undergoes Surgery After Swallowing 40 Knives
An extraordinary medical case in India shocked doctors in August 2016 when a 42-year-old police officer arrived at a hospital suffering from severe abdominal pain and extreme weakness.
Doctors initially suspected he might have a tumour. However, an endoscopy and CT scan revealed an astonishing discovery: his stomach was filled with knives.
The man told doctors that he had swallowed 28 knives over a period of about two months. Surgeons then carried out an operation lasting nearly five hours to remove the dangerous objects.
After removing 28 knives, the medical team decided to conduct one final check before closing the patient’s abdomen. They discovered 12 additional knives, bringing the total to 40.
The knives were reportedly in different conditions. Some were folded, while others were open, rusty or broken. Some were also around 18 centimetres long.
According to reports, the officer said he initially swallowed a knife and later began enjoying the sensation, eventually turning it into a habit. He also reportedly claimed that spiritual powers encouraged him to continue.
Doctors suspected an underlying psychiatric disorder and planned psychological support following the surgery.

Trump Approves Firing Squad Ex*****on for Fort Hood Attacker
President Donald Trump has approved the ex*****on of former US Army Major Nidal Hasan, who was convicted of killing 13 soldiers at Fort Hood, Texas, in 2009.
The Pentagon said Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth recommended the ex*****on, which Trump approved. The ex*****on is scheduled for December 3 at Fort Hood.
Hasan, an Army psychiatrist from Virginia, fatally shot 13 unarmed soldiers and wounded 32 others on November 5, 2009. The attack occurred in a crowded medical facility where soldiers were waiting for medical checks and vaccinations.
During his 2013 court-martial, Hasan admitted he was responsible for the shootings. He said he believed he was protecting Muslims and the Taliban in Afghanistan.
If carried out as scheduled, the ex*****on would be the first US military ex*****on by firing squad since World War Two.
Hasan is currently one of four inmates on the US military's death row. Military ex*****ons require presidential approval, as well as appellate review and a final legal judgment before they can proceed.
The case comes amid renewed debate over the use of capital punishment in the United States.

Former Boxer Jailed Over Inflammatory Social Media Videos
Former professional boxer Derek Heggie, 41, from Carlisle, has been sentenced to 10 months and two weeks in prison after pleading guilty to sending communications of a grossly offensive nature.
Carlisle Crown Court heard that Heggie uploaded two videos to YouTube between August 2 and August 8, 2024, during a period of widespread unrest across the UK following the Southport knife attacks.
Prosecutors said the videos contained inflammatory material targeting Muslims and the Islamic community. One of the videos reportedly received almost 500,000 views before law enforcement intervened.
The case was heard under the Malicious Communications Act. During sentencing, Judge Nicholas Barker considered Heggie’s previous criminal record, which includes 32 convictions for various offences.
His previous convictions include a racially aggravated public order offence and an offence involving an assault on a police officer.
The case highlights the potential legal consequences of publishing highly offensive or inflammatory material online, particularly when such content can reach large audiences during periods of heightened public tension.
Authorities continue to warn social media users that online posts and videos can have serious consequences when they cross legal boundaries.

Engineer Jailed for 15 Years Over Ulez Camera Explosion
A retired electrical engineer has been jailed for 15 years after being convicted of blowing up a Ulez camera in south-east London using a homemade explosive device.
Kevin Rees, 63, detonated the device on a camera in Wellesley Avenue, Sidcup, on 6 December 2023. The explosion damaged nearby cars and houses up to 100 metres away, with shrapnel reaching the outside of a child's bedroom.
Rees was convicted at Woolwich Crown Court of causing an explosion likely to endanger life. The court later ruled that the offence had a terrorism connection, resulting in a tougher sentence and additional restrictions following his release.
During his trial, Rees said he strongly opposed the Ulez scheme and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan. He denied involvement in the explosion and claimed his arrest was connected to his activity in anti-Ulez Facebook groups.
Police said chemicals capable of being used to make explosives and prohibited stun guns were found at his home.
The Metropolitan Police said nobody was killed or seriously injured, describing the incident as extremely dangerous.
