Have you heard about Practice Dating?

Practice dating is the intentional act of going on dates to gain experience, learn about yourself, and improve your ability to connect with others. The goal is not to lead people on or treat relationships casually. Instead, it is about approaching dating as a learning process while being honest about your intentions.

Just as people practice public speaking, sports, or professional skills, dating skills can also improve with experience. Many of us struggle with confidence and conversation, because we have limited opportunities to practice these abilities. So going on “Practice Dates” can help us build confidence and also communication skills. It can also help us be more self aware of how we are when we are with a perspective date and also in a more relaxed way what we find attractive in another person. Its important to be honest and let the other person know that you are on this date as a “practice date” rather than create some kind of false expectation of commitment. . Honesty allows both parties to make informed decisions and helps build trust. An key quality in relationships so who knows where it could lead.
Serena Kerrigan A dating influencer, based in New York, and the author of a forthcoming book, Let’s F***ing Date says that going on a practise date allows you to show up very confident, with “baddie energy … you’re going to be so authentically 100% yourself”. (Source The Guardian Practice Dating 9th June 2026)

Practice Dating Tips:
• Be clear about your intentions.
• Treat every person with respect and kindness.
• Focus on learning rather than achieving a specific outcome.
• Reflect on each dating experience.
• Stay open-minded and avoid making quick judgments.
• Maintain healthy boundaries.

By approaching dating as an opportunity for growth rather than a high-stakes search for perfection, there can be the opportunity to build stronger connections and become better prepared for meaningful long-term relationships. The key is to remain honest, respectful, and willing to learn from every dating experience along the way.

Mental Health Awareness Week Is For All Of Us
We are coming to the end of Mental Health Awareness Week.

Mental Health Awareness Week is an important time to raise awareness about mental wellbeing and encourage open conversations about mental health. It highlights the importance of looking after our emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing, while also reducing the stigma that can prevent people from seeking support. During this week, schools, workplaces, and communities come together to promote kindness, self-care, and understanding, reminding everyone that mental health is just as important as physical health. By sharing experiences and supporting one another, we can help create a more compassionate and supportive society.

We encourage you at the end of Mental Health Awareness Week to reflect on: what order and priority do I give to my own mental well being? What small actions could I take that would help my own mental wellbeing in the next week, and then perhaps take it wider and think about how you could plan in regular mental health well being strategies over the coming months. Looking after our mental health can be one of the most important routes to take to successful relationships and happiness.

Grief, Mourning & Loss… it’s not just about death 💔
When we think of grief, we often associate it with losing someone we love. And while that pain is profound, grief can show up in many other ways too — the end of a relationship, losing a job, a change in identity or role (like raising young children), or even leaving behind a place or nation you once called home.
Loss affects everyone differently. It can bring a mix of emotions, thoughts, and physical responses — and no two experiences are the same.
You may have heard of the “five stages of grief”:
✨ Denial – feeling numb or unable to accept the loss
✨ Anger – frustration, resentment, even anger at yourself
✨ Bargaining – replaying events, wishing you could change things
✨ Depression – deep sadness, withdrawal, and longing
✨ Acceptance – learning to live with your new reality
These stages aren’t linear. You might move back and forth between them — or not experience some at all. And that’s okay.
Grief doesn’t have a timeline. It can come in waves — days, months, even years later. But with time and support, those heavy feelings can soften.
🤍 Counselling can help you process emotions like sadness, anger, guilt, and loneliness — and support you in finding your way forward.
If you’re navigating a loss of any kind, you don’t have to do it alone. Reach out to Take Action Counselling for support.
