You SHOULD be furious 👀

As an artist & therapist, I know the emotional exhaustion of staying angry at the world in an increasingly scary, backwards place. Like a lot of deep feelers, you stay informed way past the point it's good for you, but you know the privilege of being able to look away.

Disillusionment literally means the death of your illusions. The illusions that were supposed to protect us, but can only keep the facade up for so long.

Being on the other side of that is tough. Seeing people suggest caring deeply is a symptom, part of a disorder or pathology, it suggests collective pain is an individual problem… you blame yourself. That’s self-gaslighting when you’re already being gaslit by the world!

You’re not a problem. How else was a nervous system built for truth going to react when you’re constantly asked to mask yourself AND the truth to fit in?

To avoid the disillusionment tipping into feeling completely powerlessness, we need to take inspiration from the animals who KNOW what to do with their anger. Art gives us power by giving us somewhere to put these feels; it channels reasonable feelings so they don’t drown us. It validates them so we don’t gaslight ourselves. And it keeps hope alive.

The first step is accepting your emotions have been trying to tell you something all along. Now you have permission to start listening 💚
