Picking the Correct Piercer 🖤

How do you know who’s actually a good piercer? 🤔

Do you automatically go for someone with 20+ years of experience, or would you consider someone who’s only been piercing for a year?

You might think the obvious answer is:

“The person with 20 years’ experience, of course. They must know exactly what they’re doing.”

❌ Not necessarily.

Experience is important, but years alone don’t determine how good a piercer is.

Someone who has been piercing for 20 years may still be using outdated techniques, poor-quality jewellery or practices that aren’t considered best practice today.

Meanwhile, someone who has been piercing for a shorter amount of time may have trained using modern industry standards, be extremely focused on hygiene and anatomy, regularly educate themselves and be very careful about every piercing they perform.

So instead of asking:

“How long have you been piercing?”

Ask:

✨ What training and qualifications do you have?
✨ Are you insured?
✨ What jewellery materials do you use?
✨ Do you use implant-grade titanium for fresh piercings?
✨ How is your equipment sterilised?
✨ Do you assess your client’s anatomy before piercing?
✨ Do you provide proper aftercare advice?
✨ Do you continue educating yourself?
✨ Can you show genuine examples of your work?
✨ Do you feel comfortable asking them questions?

DO YOUR RESEARCH. 🔎

Don’t choose a piercer simply because they’re cheap, have lots of followers or have been piercing for years.

And don’t choose someone just because they’re the newest piercer either.

Look at their hygiene, training, jewellery, technique, knowledge, portfolio, reviews and how they treat their clients.

💕 Why choose waxing over shaving?

✨ Longer-lasting smoothness — Waxing removes the hair from the root, rather than simply cutting it at the skin’s surface.

✨ Slower regrowth — Because the hair is removed from the root, you can usually enjoy smooth skin for longer before you need another treatment.

✨ Softer-feeling regrowth — With regular waxing, hair can feel softer and finer as it grows back.

✨ Less frequent maintenance — No more reaching for the razor every couple of days!

✨ Smooth, exfoliated skin — Waxing can also remove some dead skin cells from the surface, leaving your legs feeling super smooth.

📅 When is the best time to get waxed?

For the best results, your hair needs to have enough length for the wax to grip properly. Ideally, allow your hair to grow for around 2–3 weeks after shaving, although this can vary depending on how quickly your hair grows.

Try to avoid shaving immediately before your appointment — short stubble can be difficult for the wax to grip.

If you’re new to waxing, it’s a good idea to book your appointment when you have a little time afterwards to let your skin settle. Your skin may be slightly red or sensitive immediately after waxing, which is completely normal.

💗 TOP TIP: If you have an event, holiday or special occasion coming up, don’t leave your first wax until the day before! Book a few days beforehand so your skin has time to settle and you can see how your skin reacts.
