Ashta Rasa of Devi 🙏
Can the Goddess have only one expression?
Through the grace and power of Devi, Vijisha portrays the Ashta Rasa, inspired by Soundarya Lahari.
She loves — Śṛṅgāra
She smiles — Hāsya
She feels — Karuṇa
She rages — Raudra
She stands fearless — Vīra
She evokes fear — Bhayānaka
She rejects injustice — Bībhatsa
She fills us with wonder — Adbhuta
At Taamara, abhinaya helps us discover the many emotional worlds held within one Devi.
Eight rasas. One Goddess. Infinite Shakti.

Where does Shakti live in a dancer?
Is the Goddess only as a character from mythology?
We see in our dancers, her qualities.
When a young dancer learns to stand firmly without shrinking — there is *Durga*.
When movement becomes softer, quieter and more generous — there is *Lakshmi*.
When a student asks a question, listens carefully, repeats a movement and finally understands it — there is *Saraswati*.
For our senior students, *Shakti* may appear through a complex character or an intense piece of abhinaya.
For an early learner, she may appear simply in the courage to stand in front of the class and dance alone for the first time.
At Taamara, this is how we understand Shakti:
not only as the Goddess we portray,
but as qualities we slowly discover within ourselves through learning.

What Navaratri means to a dancer?
Shakti.
Bhakti.
Grace.
Courage.
Discipline.
Joy.
Perhaps that is the beauty of it.
The same nine nights can hold a different meaning for each of us.
At Taamara, we celebrate every expression, every story and every feeling that dance brings alive.

A swara being repeated.
A Shloka being recited.
A student finding the right pitch.
A word being explained.
A rhythm being practised.
