EDP vs EDT: What’s the Difference? 🤔

You’ve probably seen EDP and EDT written on perfume bottles and wondered what they actually mean.

The main difference is the concentration of fragrance oils.

EDP — Eau de Parfum
Usually has a higher fragrance-oil concentration than EDT. This generally means it can smell richer and may last longer on the skin.

EDT — Eau de Toilette
Usually has a lower concentration, giving it a lighter and often fresher feel. It can be a great choice for daytime and warmer weather.

But here’s the important part: EDP doesn’t automatically mean “better” than EDT. Performance also depends on the fragrance formula, your skin, the weather and how much you apply.

So next time you’re choosing a perfume, don’t just look at EDP or EDT, look at the fragrance itself and what suits you. 👌🏽

CHAPTER THREE — THE GIRL WITH THE QUIET SMILE

Brian the Tall stood outside his hostel room long after the call ended.

The phone was still pressed against his ear, although there was nothing on the other side anymore.

Your father made me a promise.

Now it’s time for you to pay the debt.

Brian replayed the words again and again.

Who was this man?

And what debt could possibly belong to him?

The corridor was noisy around him. Students passed carrying books, laughing, arguing about assignments and complaining about money. Somewhere downstairs, someone was playing music loud enough to make the windows vibrate.

Normal university life.

Yet Brian the Tall suddenly felt as though he had stepped into a different world.

Daniel found him standing there.

“Bro, you okay?”

Brian lowered his phone.

“Yeah.”

Daniel looked at him for a moment.

“That is the worst ‘yeah’ I have ever heard.”

Brian almost smiled.

“Just someone from home.”

Daniel nodded, but Brian could tell he didn't believe him.

That night, Brian took the brown envelope from beneath his mattress.

He stared at it for several minutes.

Then he opened it.

Inside was the same name and number the stranger had given him in Igoji.

But there was something else.

A small photograph.

Brian turned it over.

The picture was old and slightly faded. There were three men standing outside what looked like an office.

One of them was the stranger.

The other two were younger.

Brian stared at the second man.

His breath caught.

He knew that face.

It was his father.

Brian quickly put the photograph back into the envelope.

For the first time since arriving at JKUAT, he wished he had listened when his father told him to forget the stranger.

But university had a way of swallowing worries.

The following weeks pulled Brian back into ordinary life.

Lectures. Assignments. Cheap meals. Empty pockets. Friends who somehow always had money when you didn't.

Brian the Tall became a familiar figure around campus.

His height made him impossible to miss.

“Brian the Tall!”

Someone would shout from across the compound.

He would turn.

Sometimes he didn't even know who had called him.

Daniel found the whole thing hilarious.

“You don't need a phone,” he told him one afternoon. “People can locate you by shouting.”

Brian laughed.

He was beginning to enjoy university.

There was freedom here.

Nobody asked where you were going every five minutes. Nobody checked whether you had returned home before sunset. For the first time, Brian could make decisions for himself.

But freedom had its price.

Money disappeared quickly.

His mother sent what she could. His father sent less often but always at the right time. Brian learned to stretch KSh 500 until it looked like KSh 1,000.

He also discovered that university was not just about books.

It was about people.

Some became friends.

Some became strangers.

And some appeared in your life without warning.

That was how Brian the Tall met Sapit.

It happened on an ordinary afternoon.

Brian was walking from a lecture with Daniel when he saw her standing beneath a tree, holding a notebook against her chest.

She was beautiful.

Not the loud kind of beauty that demanded attention.

Hers was quieter.

The kind that made you look twice without realizing you had done it.

Daniel noticed Brian staring.

“Don't.”

Brian looked at him.

“Don't what?”

“Whatever you are about to do.”

Brian laughed.

“I haven't done anything.”

“Your face has already done it.”

Before Brian could respond, the girl looked up.

Their eyes met.

For a second, Brian the Tall forgot what he was saying.

She smiled.

A small, effortless smile.

Then she walked towards them.

“Excuse me,” she said.

Brian straightened.

“Yes?”

She looked at him, then at Daniel.

“Are you Brian?”

Daniel immediately stepped back.

“Oh, this is getting interesting.”

Brian ignored him.

“Yes. Brian.”

She smiled again.

“Sapit.”

And then she walked away.

Brian watched her disappear into the crowd.

Daniel waited a few seconds.

Then he shook his head.

“Brian the Tall.”

“What?”

“You are finished.”

Brian laughed.

But he couldn't stop thinking about her.

And neither of them knew that Sapit was about to become much more important to Brian's life than either of them could have imagined.
