| Five Kenyan Security Officers Killed in Suspected Al-Shabaab Border Ambush

July 29, 2026 — Five Kenyan security officers, including four members of the elite Special Operations Group (SOG) and one National Police Reservist, were killed after their patrol vehicle struck a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) before coming under attack near the Kenya–Somalia border in Mandera County.

The officers were conducting a routine border security patrol when the deadly incident occurred. Security agencies have launched an operation to pursue those responsible as investigations continue.
