Ja'far ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنه was the cousin of the Prophet ﷺ and the son of Abu Talib.

At a certain time, Abu Talib went through some financial difficulties. So Muhammad ﷺ went to Al-Abbas ibn Abdul Muttalib and told him, "O Abbas, you see your brother is going through difficulty. Why don't we each take one of his sons so that it can become lighter on him?"

Rasulullah ﷺ took Ali ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنه, and Al-Abbas ibn Abdul Muttalib took Ja'far ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنه.

It is reported that Ja'far accepted Islam together with his wife, Asma bint Umays

He was one of those who migrated to Africa, where they remained for ten years.

After a few days, Quraysh heard that they had gone to Africa. They sent Amr ibn al-As, and they wanted to bribe An-Najashi and tell him, "Send these people back."

At that time, Amr ibn al-As was not yet a Muslim. He went to An-Najashi carrying many gifts.

When they were brought before An-Najashi, Amr said:

"We have a group of people who have abandoned our religion. They have left Makkah and come here, and they are speaking badly about us, our forefathers, and the religion that we follow. We want you to send them back."

An-Najashi replied:

"I will never do that. I always listen to both sides of the story."

So he called Ja'far ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنه and the Muslims.

They had already decided that only one person would speak on their behalf, and that spokesman would be Ja'far

When An-Najashi asked them, "What do you have to say?"

Ja'far ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنه stood up and delivered his famous speech.

He said:

"O Najashi, we were people who were lost. We worshipped stones, sticks, and idols. We buried our daughters alive. Then Allah blessed us by sending to us a man from amongst ourselves. We know his lineage. We know his family. We know that he is truthful and trustworthy. He taught us to worship Allah alone and to abandon idols. We believed in him, so our people began to persecute us."

An-Najashi listened carefully and then asked:

"You say revelation comes to this man? I want you to recite some of that revelation."

Ja'far ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنه recited the opening verses of Surah Maryam.

An-Najashi began to cry until his beard became wet with tears.

He said:

"By Allah, what you have recited and what I know about Isa (Jesus) have come from exactly the same source."

His tears are even mentioned in the Qur'an.

Then An-Najashi declared:

"You may stay in my land for as long as you wish."

He then ordered that all the gifts be returned to Amr ibn al-As.

Later in Madinah, Ja'far رضي الله عنه became well known for his kindness to the poor.

He cared for them, fed them, and looked after them so much that he became known as Abu al-Masakin (the Father of the Poor).

Later he participated in the Battle of Mu'tah.

The Prophet ﷺ appointed the commanders before the army departed.

He said:

"If Zayd ibn Harithah is martyred, then Ja'far ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنه will take command. If he is martyred, then Abdullah ibn Rawahah رضي الله عنه will take command. If he is martyred, then the Muslims may choose whoever they wish."

While the Prophet ﷺ was sitting in Madinah, Allah informed him of what was taking place on the battlefield of Mu'tah.

When Ja'far رضي الله عنه took the banner, one of his hands was cut off.

He took the banner with the other hand, and that hand too was cut off.

He continued carrying the banner until he was finally martyred.

The Prophet ﷺ later said:

"I saw Ja'far in Paradise with wings instead of hands, flying wherever he wished."

Because of this, he became known as Ja'far al-Tayyar (Ja'far, the one who flies).

His wife, Asma bint Umays رضي الله عنها, later married Abu Bakr as-Siddiq رضي الله عنه, and they had children together.

After Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه passed away, she married Ali ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنه until he too was martyred.

This was Ja'far ibn Abi Talib

Hadith

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said 10 things about money.

Not 10 religious platitudes about wealth being
bad. Not 10 vague reminders to give charity.

10 specific, practical, theologically grounded
statements about how money works, what it does
to people, and how a believer is supposed to
relate to it.

Read all 10. Slowly.

1. HE SAID WHAT YOU EARN MATTERS

"The best income is what a man earns with his
own hands, and every honest trade transaction."
(Sunan Ibn Majah 2138, authenticated)

He didn't say all income is equal as long as
you give some of it away. He said the source
matters. The hands it came through matter.
The honesty of the transaction it came from matters.

2. HE SAID WEALTH WITHOUT GRATITUDE IS A TEST YOU ARE FAILING

"Richness is not having many possessions.
Rather, richness is the richness of the soul."
(Sahih Bukhari 6446)

You can have a full bank account and a poverty-
stricken heart. He was describing two completely
different kinds of wealth and being clear about
which one the believer should be building.

3. HE SAID YOUR FIRST QUESTION ON JUDGMENT DAY
INCLUDES HOW YOU EARNED

"The two feet of the son of Adam will not move
from before his Lord on the Day of Judgment
until he has been asked about five things —
his life, how he spent it; his youth, how he
used it; his wealth, how he earned it and how
he spent it; and how he acted upon his knowledge."
(Sunan at-Tirmidhi 2416, authenticated)

Two questions about money. How you earned it.
How you spent it. Both will be asked. Not just
one.

4. HE SAID RIBA WILL DESTROY YOU EVEN IF IT
MAKES YOU RICH

"Allah has cursed the one who consumes riba,
the one who pays it, the one who records it,
and the two witnesses to it — they are all
equal." (Sahih Muslim 1598)

Not "try to avoid riba." Everyone involved in
the transaction. The writer. The witnesses.
All equal. He was drawing a boundary around
a specific economic practice and placing every
participant on the same side of it.

5. HE SAID GENEROSITY PROTECTS YOUR WEALTH

"Protect your wealth by giving zakah. Treat
your sick by giving charity. Meet difficulty
with dua." (Sunan Abu Dawud 3106, authenticated)

He connected giving money away to protecting
the money you have. Not as a superstition, but
as a spiritual principle about what happens to
wealth that circulates through generosity versus
wealth that contracts through hoarding.

6. HE SAID THE DANGER OF WEALTH IS NOT
HAVING IT — IT'S LOVING IT

"For every ummah there is a trial, and the
trial of my ummah is wealth."
(Sunan at-Tirmidhi 2336, authenticated)

Not poverty. Wealth.

The trial isn't going without. The trial is
what happens to your priorities, your values,
and your relationship with Allah when you stop
going without.

---

7. HE SAID ALLAH LOVES A SKILLED WORKER

"Allah loves that when any of you does a job,
he does it with itqan — with excellence."
(Al-Bayhaqi, authenticated by Al-Albani)

The word "itqan" means doing something to the
highest standard of quality you are capable of.
Not excellence as performance. Excellence as
a form of worship. Because the work you do
with your hands is connected to the name you
put on it, and the name you put on it is
connected to who created you to work.

8. HE SAID DEBT CAN FOLLOW YOU INTO THE NEXT LIFE

When someone died and it was mentioned that he
had outstanding debts, the Prophet ﷺ would ask
whether he had left anything to repay them.
If yes, he would pray the janazah. If the person
had left nothing, he initially said let his
companions pray over him instead, until later in
Madinah when he took the debts of deceased
Muslims upon himself personally.
(Sahih Bukhari 2295)

Debt had spiritual weight. It wasn't a financial
technicality to be managed. It was a trust that
remained open until it was closed.

---

9. HE SAID THE LAST THING YOU SHOULD WANT
IS TO DIE WITH MORE THAN YOU NEEDED

He himself died with almost nothing of material
value. His armor was pledged against a debt.
Aisha رضي الله عنها described their household
sometimes going multiple consecutive days
without a cooked meal.

He once said: "What do I have to do with the
world? My relationship with the world is like
a traveler who rests under a tree, then moves on."
(Sunan at-Tirmidhi 2377)

Not condemnation of wealth for others. A personal
statement of where he had decided to rest his
identity. Not under his assets. On the road
toward something beyond them.

---

10. HE SAID THE REAL PROFIT IS WHAT YOU SEND AHEAD

"The son of Adam says: my money, my money.
But of your money, is there anything that is
really yours except what you ate and finished,
what you wore and wore out, or what you gave
in charity and sent forward?"
(Sahih Muslim 2959)

Three things. What you ate. What you wore.
What you gave away.

Everything else stayed here when you left.
Only those three categories actually crossed
with you.

10 statements. None of them is vague. None of
them is even comfortable if you actually sit with them.

The Prophet ﷺ was not anti-wealth. He married
a wealthy businesswoman. He accepted gifts. He
managed community finances. He cared about
the economic dignity of the people around him.

But he had a relationship with money that most
of us haven't built. Where it was completely
in his hand and never in his heart.

That's the goal. Not poverty. Not abundance.
Just money that sits in your hand, does what
it's supposed to do, and never moves up to
somewhere it doesn't belong.

COMMENT (SAW )and tell us which of the 10 moved you most.

their finances from an Islamic perspective.

Ni**od (Namrūd) was one of the greatest tyrants in history. He ruled with arrogance, rejected the truth, and challenged the authority of Allah. When Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham, peace be upon him) called him to worship Allah alone, Ni**od boasted of his own power. Yet no army, no fortress, and no kingdom could protect him from the decree of Allah.

According to authentic Islamic reports from the early scholars, Allah sent one of His smallest creations, a mosquito. It entered Ni**od’s nose, and he suffered terribly until his death. The one who claimed greatness was humbled by a creature that people hardly notice.

This is a timeless reminder: power, wealth, armies, and status mean nothing before Allah. He grants honor to whom He wills and humiliates whom He wills. Never measure strength by worldly standards. The might of Allah is above everything, and His decree can come through the smallest of means.

Allah says:

“Indeed, Allah is not timid to present an example—that of a mosquito or what is smaller than it.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:26)

May Allah protect us from arrogance, make us humble before Him, and keep our hearts firm upon His guidance. Āmīn.
