unlawful the National Assembly’s N110 billion vehicle and allowance spending for lawmakers.
The court ruled that the plan to spend N40 billion on 465 vehicles and N70 billion on allowances violated procurement laws and constitutional standards.
The case was filed by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) against the National Assembly.
Justice Yellim Bogoro held that the spending was arbitrary, excessive, and not in line with due process requirements.
The court also said the lawmakers were approving funds that directly benefited themselves, describing it as self-dealing and a conflict of interest.
It added that public funds must be managed with transparency, accountability, and value for money.
The court ordered the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, to ensure strict compliance with procurement laws in future spending.
SERAP said the judgment is a major win for accountability and public interest governance in Nigeria.
