Soon, the mug population exploded. They were on the desk, under the sofa, and even nestled amongst the shoes. Bronte began referring to their small flat as ‘The Grand Museum of Porcela
One Tuesday, Bronte discovered a mug in the fridge, perfectly chilling next to the butter. It was covered in a thick, mysterious green
“Amelia!” Bronte wailed, holding the mug out like a biological hazard. “I think this one is evolving! It has its own ecosystem!

Amelia hadn’t seen it coming. She looked around their tiny kitchen. Mugs lined the counters like small, grumpy soldiers. She hadn't realised how many she was responsible for.

Bronte decided on a new strategy. She gathered all the mugs—seventy-three of them, or perhaps seventy-four—and stacked them neatly in the centre of the living r
It looked like a ceramic sculpture, a beautiful but terrifying monument to caffeine addiction and forgetfulness. “It’s modern art,” Bronte announced. “Title: The Price of Tea.”

Amelia tried to ignore the monument, but it was impossible. To get to the telly, she had to circle the tower. To reach a clean spoon, she had to admire The Price of Tea.

Then, she realised the most important thing: she couldn't actually find a clean mug. Every single one was in the pile, either dirty or freshly stacked by Bronte.

Slowly, Amelia started her cleanup project. One by one, the mugs marched from the monument to the sink, then to the draining rack, making a pleasing clatter.

Now, there was just one rule: if a mug was empty, it wasn't resting—it was marching! And the only monument in their flat was the nice, clean space on the counter.
