🚨 WARNING SIGNS OF DIPHTHERIA

Diphtheria can become life-threatening quickly. Seek urgent medical care if someone with suspected diphtheria develops:

🫁 Difficulty breathing or noisy breathing
😮‍💨 Shortness of breath or feeling unable to get enough air
🗣️ Hoarse or changed voice
😣 Difficulty or pain when swallowing
🤤 Excessive drooling, especially in children
🦠 A thick gray or white coating (membrane) in the throat or tonsils — do not try to remove it
🦋 Swelling of the neck (“bull neck” appearance)
🌡️ Fever, weakness, or extreme tiredness
💓 Fast or irregular heartbeat, fainting, or severe weakness
🧠 Confusion, unusual drowsiness, or severe weakness
🫁 Bluish lips/face or signs of severe oxygen deprivation

⚠️ Difficulty breathing, bluish lips, severe neck/throat swelling, or inability to swallow saliva are emergencies.

Diphtheria is highly contagious and potentially fatal, but it can be treated. Suspected cases should be isolated and assessed urgently so appropriate antitoxin, antibiotics, and contact-management measures can be started.
