𝙁𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙘 𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙙 is a 𝘽 𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙣 (𝙑𝙞𝙩 𝘽9) that helps your baby's brain, spinal cord, heart, and nervous system develop properly, especially during the first few weeks of pregnancy.

It also helps your body make healthy red blood cells and reduces the risk of anemia during pregnancy.

Yes, the smell may be unpleasant for some women, but the benefits to your baby far outweigh this temporary discomfort. If the smell makes you nauseous, try taking it after meals or speak with your pharmacist or doctor about alternative brands or formulations.

Many people believe that white Vitamin C is stronger or more effective than coloured Vitamin C.
But is that really true?

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙬𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙨 𝙉𝙊.

The colour of a Vitamin C tablet does not determine how well it works. Whether it is 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙩𝙚, 𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚, 𝙧𝙚𝙙, 𝙮𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬, 𝙤𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙧, what matters most is the amount of Vitamin C (𝙖𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙗𝙞𝙘 𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙙) it contains and the quality of the manufacturer.

Think about it this way: If you pour the same amount of water into a white cup and a coloured cup, does the colour of the cup change the amount of water inside? Does it turn the water into wine or anything else? Of course not.

In the same way, manufacturers may add colours, flavours, or coatings to make tablets easier to identify, more attractive, or more pleasant to take. These additions do not automatically make the Vitamin C weaker or stronger.

So, before buying Vitamin C, focus on:

✅ The strength of the product (e.g., 100mg, 500 mg or 1000 mg)
✅ The quality of the manufacturer
✅ The expiry date and your pharmacist's advice

The next time someone tells you that white Vitamin C is better than coloured Vitamin C, remember this:

One of the most common mistakes people make is stopping their blood pressure medication once their blood pressure returns to normal.

But here's the truth:

Think of it like using an umbrella in the rain. If you stay dry under the umbrella, it doesn't mean the rain has stopped. The umbrella is protecting you.

In the same way, blood pressure medications help keep your blood pressure under control and reduce your risk of serious complications such as stroke, heart attack, heart failure, and kidney disease.

If you stop taking your medication without medical advice, your blood pressure can rise again often without any sign.

This is why hypertension is called the "𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙧." Many people feel perfectly well even when their blood pressure is dangerously high.

If you have concerns about your medication, side effects, or treatment plan, speak with your doctor or pharmacist before making any changes.

As a pharmacist, I see these mistakes almost every day, and many people don't realize they can be dangerous.

1. 𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧

Many people stop taking their medicine as soon as their symptoms improve.

For example, after taking antibiotics for two or three days, they feel better and stop. But the infection may not be completely gone, and this can increase the risk of treatment failure and antibiotic resistance.

Some also stop their BP drugs because their blood has come down to normal.
They are both wrong. You should try to finish your prescribed antibiotics even when you feel okay after the first two or three doses. And for BP Meds, discuss with your doctor rather than stopping the drugs.

2. 𝙐𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙚𝙡𝙨𝙚'𝙨 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣

Your friend's medicine worked for them, but that doesn't mean it is right for you.

Two people can have similar symptoms but completely different illnesses. Taking another person's medication presumes the same diagnosis and that can delay your diagnosis & proper treatment or even cause harm.

3. 𝙈𝙞𝙭𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙖𝙨𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡

Many people combine prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and herbal products without knowing they can interact with each other.

One of the most common observations in community pharmacy practice is people rushing to buy Flagyl (metronidazole) whenever they have diarrhea or even slight stomach upset. And when they already have it at home, they simply pop it at the slightest discomfort.

But here is the truth:

𝙉𝙤𝙩 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙝𝙚𝙖 𝙤𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝙪𝙥𝙨𝙚𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙨 𝙁𝙡𝙖𝙜𝙮𝙡.

Many cases of diarrhea are caused by viruses, food poisoning, contaminated food, lactose intolerance, or dietary changes. In such situations, Flagyl may not help because it only works against specific bacteria and parasites.

Taking Flagyl unnecessarily exposes you to side effects such as nausea, a metallic taste, dizziness, stomach discomfort, and even a disulfiram-like reaction when taken with alcohol.

More importantly, frequent and inappropriate use contributes to 𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙗𝙞𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚. This means that over time, the germs that Flagyl is meant to kill can learn to survive it. When a serious infection eventually occurs, the drug may no longer work effectively.

For most cases of diarrhea, the first priority is preventing dehydration by taking plenty of fluids and Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS), while identifying the actual cause of the illness.

The next time diarrhea occurs, don’t automatically reach for Flagyl. Talk to a doctor or healthcare professional.

Focus on treating the cause, not just the symptom.

Meet Mr. James.

Whenever he had a cough, fever, sore throat, or stomach upset, he bought antibiotics on his own.
Sometimes he bought just two capsules because he wanted to save money.

Other times, he stopped taking the medicine after 2 or 3 days because he felt better. To him, it seemed harmless.

But every time he did this, some bacteria survived.
Those surviving bacteria became tougher and harder to kill. They multiplied and passed on their "survival skills" to other bacteria.
Over time, the antibiotics that once worked well against them became less effective.

This is called 𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙗𝙞𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚.

Today, antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest health threats in the world. It means common infections can become harder to treat, recovery can take longer, treatment costs can increase, and lives can be put at risk.

As a pharmacist, my advice is simple:

✅ Only use antibiotics when recommended by a qualified healthcare professional.
✅ Take the correct dose.
✅ Complete the full course, even when you feel better

Don't be like Mr James. Don't train bacteria to defeat the medicines designed to kill them.

Use antibiotics responsibly and help preserve these life-saving medicines for yourself, your family, and future generations.

Beecham Ampiclox is an antibiotic containing ampicillin and cloxacillin. Its purpose is to treat certain bacterial infections. 𝙄𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙣𝙤 𝙚𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙤𝙣 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙢, 𝙤𝙫𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙤𝙧 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣. Therefore, taking it after s*x will not stop a pregnancy from occurring.

Unfortunately, many young women have been misled into using antibiotics as a form of emergency contraceptive. This practice is not only ineffective but also harmful.

When antibiotics are taken unnecessarily especially at sub-therapeutic doses, bacteria gradually learn to survive them and develop resistance to them. This means that in the future, when you genuinely need an antibiotic for an infection, it may no longer work as expected. Antibiotic resistance is a growing public health problem worldwide.

So, what should be used after unprotected s*x if pregnancy is not desired?

𝙀𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙮 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙥𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙨 such as Postinor-2, are specifically designed for that purpose and should be taken within the recommended time frame and it is not 100% guaranteed.

𝙄𝙣 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣: Antibiotics are for treating infections, not preventing pregnancy.

As we conclude our Natural Family Planning series using the Billings Ovulation Method, let us discuss one of the most common questions couples ask: “𝘾𝙖𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙛 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙡𝙪𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙖 𝙗𝙤𝙮 𝙤𝙧 𝙖 𝙜𝙞𝙧𝙡?”

A man produces two types of s***m cells:

𝙓-𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙢 produce a girl baby, while 𝙔-𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙢 produce a boy baby. The woman’s egg always carries an 𝙓 𝙘𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚, so the s***m from the man determines the baby’s s*x.

Some studies suggest that Y-bearing s***m may swim faster because they carry slightly less genetic material. However, they may also lose strength and die earlier inside the female reproductive tract.

X-bearing s***m are believed to swim more slowly but survive longer, especially in fertile cervical mucus seen around ovulation in the Billings Method.

Because of this, it is believed that in*******se very close to ovulation may increase the chances of having a boy, while in*******se two to three (2-3) days before ovulation may increase the chances of having a girl.

However, it is important to understand that the difference is small, and no natural method can definitively guarantee a baby’s s*x. The Billings Method is mainly designed to help couples understand fertility, identify ovulation, and plan or avoid pregnancy naturally.
