‘You’re a War Criminal’: Activists Confront Hegseth at Armed Services Hearing

U.S. Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth was called a “war criminal” by protesters as he arrived at a House Armed Services Committee hearing in Washington.

Hegseth appeared before the committee as part of a congressional hearing on the Trump administration’s proposed $1.5 trillion defence budget – an increase of 42% and the ongoing US military campaign in Iran.

Lawmakers questioned the proposed budget and pressed officials on the ongoing war with Iran, including reports of civilian casualties and broader US military strategy.

The incident comes as Iran continues to restrict transit through Hormuz in response to a US naval blockade, adding further uncertainty to global energy flows and regional stability.

Tehran says its nuclear programme is peaceful. No agreement, venue or formal date has been confirmed yet.
