The idea that ma*****na âgrows brain cellsâ comes from laboratory and animal studies showing that certain cannabinoids, particularly CBD and some synthetic cannabinoid compounds, may stimulate neurogenesisâthe formation of new neuronsâin the hippocampus, a brain region involved in learning and memory. These findings have sparked interest in developing cannabinoid-based treatments for neurological disorders. However, most of this evidence comes from preclinical research, not from healthy humans. Current research suggests the effects of cannabinoids are complex and depend on the specific compound, dose, age, and frequency of use. (MDPI)
While the science is promising, the claim that âma*****na triggers brain cell growthâ is an oversimplification. Cannabis contains hundreds of compounds, and THC and CBD can have very different effects. Heavy or long-term cannabis useâespecially during adolescenceâhas also been linked to negative effects on memory, learning, and brain development in some studies. Scientists continue to investigate whether certain cannabinoids can be safely used as medicines for neurodegenerative diseases, but more human clinical research is needed before broad conclusions can be made. As we continue to celebrate Menâs Health Month, itâs worth taking a moment to talk about something that often gets overlooked: healthy aging.
For many men, health conversations tend to focus on reacting to problems after they appear. But maintaining vitality, mental clarity, emotional well-being, mobility, and overall quality of life starts long before that.
Prostate health is one important part of the picture. Emerging research continues to explore how the endocannabinoid system may support whole-person wellness as we age. While the science is still evolving, it's an area that many healthcare professionals and researchers are watching closely.
We recently shared a blog that explores the connection between men's health, mental wellness, and the endocannabinoid systemâand we think it's an important read for anyone looking to take a more proactive approach to their health.
If you're interested in learning more about how the body supports balance, resilience, and healthy aging, take a few minutes to read it.
đ We've placed the blog link in the comments below.
After you've read it, let us know: What aspect of healthy aging is most important to you right nowâenergy, sleep, mental clarity, mobility, or overall wellness?

Self-reported Cannabis Use to Manage Opioid Withdrawal Symptoms and Reductions in Opioid Use Among People Who Use Unregulated Opioids: A Cross-Sectional Analysis
Cannabis helps people quit opioids and many studies show this.
45% of participants (89 out of 197) said they had used cannabis to manage opioid withdrawal in the past six months.
Overall, people who used cannabis for withdrawal were more than twice as likely to report reducing their opioid use (adjusted odds ratio = 2.16).
When looking only at people with moderate to severe pain, the effect was much stronger: they were over six times more likely to report reducing opioid use.
