If you’re new here: 👋 My name is Stephanie Alirkan and I am a holistic, somatic psychotherapist 🧠currently working online. 💻 I have a Master’s of Science in Mental Health Counseling.

As newborns, 👶🏻we’re as deeply embodied as it gets, our breath fills us all the way into our toes. 🫁From this place, we’re able to find our own answers and take Radical Responsibility for our lives and get back into our Truest Selves. ♥️

If you’re here right now, you may feel some dis-ease or discomfort being in your body, or the idea of returning back into right relationship with yourself. Maybe you are facing the difficult task of understanding yourself deeply, after facing significant traumas and noticing its effects on your present. Perhaps you find yourself under a lot of pressure, overwhelm, leading to low self-esteem and anxiety. Introjection is a lesser spoken of defense mechanism. I found it helpful for understanding how inner dialogue starts to form. Have you heard much of introjection? How might being aware it exists help?

Maybe you also grew up with something of a Tiger Mom, or with parents with quite the standards. And maybe they introjected into your standards “for yourself.”

In psychology, this is textbook introjection.

It is one Freud’s 12 defense mechanisms, (posited by Sigmund Freud, and further developed by his daughter, Ana). It occurs when a person internalizes the ideas or voices of other people-often external authorities.

Breathwork is my #1 practice for clearing my energy after heavier talk therapy sessions with clients @ my internship. A common ordeal beginning mental health therapists struggle with is taking on the energy of our caseload and letting it effect our own moods. I mean, it’s only human… 😳

Whatever work you’re in, if you work with people, in any capacity, I’m sure you can relate. 😅

If you’re new to me, I’m currently on my last semester in my MS in Mental Health Counseling. It’s my dream to combine talk therapy and somatic breathwork practices because it is the only thing that’s ever really helped me feel better. Or even capable of feeling better.

Sometimes I like to share the physiological components since I can’t quite translate the spiritual and physical sensations immediately to you unless you’ve tried it yourself or book a session with me. 😉
