What is Artisanal Perfumery? And how do we recognize craftsmanship?

In an industry increasingly driven by speed, scale, and outsourcing, craftsmanship deserves recognition.

A handcrafted fragrance is more than a formula. It is the result of knowledge, material understanding, sourcing, refinement, and creative authorship.

The Swedish word Hantverk translates to craftsmanship.

To honor the perfumers who remain deeply involved in the creation process, from vision to ex*****on, we created a category dedicated to craft itself.

This category is an ode to you.

The Hantverk Category

A cloud can be many things.

A physical cloud drifting across the sky. A digital cloud storing fragments of our lives. A philosophical cloud—something present, yet impossible to fully grasp.

"Paradox of Cloud" is a multi-disciplinary art project between perfumer Joseph Constantin, and SDVVVworks. It explores these overlapping meanings through translating the invisible, the fleeting, and the intangible into an olfactive experience.

Trends come and go, but a true brief to scent transcription is timeless and deserves more praise.

Bottling memories, emotions and synesthesia is not an easy task.

In a industry where provocation is rewarded merely by the obscurity, and categorized as ultra-niche, we chose a different aspect in order to respect and raise the bar to recognize conceptual perfumery and artistic approach.

We posed this question to members of the Polaris Awards jury. Their answers reveal that fragrance can be evaluated through many lenses: innovation, creativity, intention, craftsmanship, emotion, memory, and the ability to transform how we perceive the world around us.
