We are so excited to introduce our new revamped Tallow Zinc Sunscreen, thoughtfully crafted with nourishing, skin-loving ingredients that help protect and support your skin naturally.

🌿 Grass-Fed Tallow
Rich in skin-compatible fatty acids and naturally occurring vitamins, grass-fed tallow closely resembles the oils our skin produces. It helps moisturize, support the skin barrier, and leaves skin feeling soft without a greasy finish.

🍓 Red Raspberry Seed Oil
Packed with antioxidants and essential fatty acids, red raspberry seed oil helps nourish the skin and defend against environmental stressors. It also offers natural UV absorbing capabilities!

💧 Squalane Oil
A lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer that absorbs beautifully into the skin. Squalane helps lock in hydration, supports the skin’s natural barrier, and leaves your skin feeling silky smooth.

🛡️ Non-Nano Zinc Oxide
Our active sun-protecting ingredient. Non-nano zinc oxide sits on the surface of the skin to provide broad-spectrum protection by reflecting and scattering both UVA and UVB rays. Because the particles are non-nano, they remain on the skin’s surface rather than being absorbed through the skin and into the bloodstream.

🐝 Beeswax
Nature’s protective seal. Beeswax helps create a breathable barrier that locks in moisture, improves water resistance, and gives our sunscreen its smooth, creamy texture for easy application.

Not all tallow is created equal—and if you’ve ever wondered why some balms feel silky while others feel grainy or hard, here’s why:

✨ It comes down to TWO things: how it’s rendered + what the cows eat.

🐄 What the cows eat matters
Grass-fed and grass-finished cattle produce fat that’s significantly more nutrient-dense. Because they’re raised on their natural diet their entire lives (not grain-finished), the fat retains higher levels of skin-supportive nutrients like vitamins A, D, E, and K, along with a more balanced fatty acid profile.

That translates to tallow that’s not only more nourishing—but also smoother, more stable, and more nourishing for your skin.

🔥 How it’s rendered matters
Rendering is the process of melting down the fat. When done slowly and at low temperatures, it preserves the valuable nutrients in the beef fat and creates a clean, creamy consistency. High heat or rushed rendering can damage those nutrients which leads to a grainy or waxy texture.

FarmToSkin

Over the past 2.5 years, we have been sourcing our beef fat from various sources. Initially, we began sourcing it from farms that were not local due to availability, always ensuring the fat was from grass fed and finished cows. The beef fat was already rendered down which made it more convenient as a brand new company.
As we have grown and have made connections within the community, we have had the chance to meet a lot of wonderful farmers. This has given us the ability to purchase and use local beef fat and render the fat ourselves.
Initially, we were only utilizing the local beef fat to make our soaps because of limited quantities. Within the last 6 months though, we were able to source enough fat from a larger local farm and are now using all local beef fat for our products.
What does this mean for you?
🐄 Local grass fed and finished tallow for all products
🐄 A rendering process that reserves the quality and nutrients within the tallow (we render all of the beef fat ourselves to control how much it is heated and for how long)
🐄 A slight texture change (our salves and balms will be a little firmer)- we will elaborate on why a cow’s diet and the rendering process matter for texture in our next post.
