There are many layers and facets that make up USWD. Phase I began in 2006, when Makala Fields created a collaged shirt representing Black love and Black families. Love for her people, art and imagery coupled with an overwhelming response from the community, helped give birth to Unspoken Word Designs. She chose “Unspoken Word” because she felt that imagery alone could speak volumes; specifically to the youth.
