Products and treatments do not act independently of how they are applied.
Cleansing methods, pre-treatment preparation, exfoliation choices, and timing all influence barrier integrity and skin response.
Corneotherapy recognizes application as an active component of treatment rather than a passive step.
Corneotherapy by dermaviduals®US is based on the book Corneotherapy – Link Between Dermatology & Cosmetics by Hans Lautenschläger, founder of the International Association for Applied Corneotherapy.
This course provides structure around sequencing and recovery to reduce setbacks and improve consistency in results.
Taught by I.A.C. certified educator Dr. Erin Madigan-Fleck .
This course is COA and NCEA approved for 10 credit hours.

One of the most misunderstood concepts in professional skincare is pe*******on
In corneotherapy, it is not the goal. What matters is where an active is intended to act-on the surface, within the barrier, or via controlled passage-each requiring specific carriers and dosing.
Membrane systems (liposomes, nanodispersions, DMS creams) interact with lipid bilayers, supporting targeted delivery, lower irritation, and improved stability.
Concentration is critical: even beneficial actives can become counterproductive when overdosed. Corneotherapy evaluates formulation behavior, not ingredient lists.
The goal is controlled interaction with skin physiology, not pe*******on.

In corneotherapy, skin safety is not defined by ingredient trends or marketing labels.
Even approved ingredients can negatively impact the skin if impurities, degradation, packaging interactions, or storage conditions are not properly controlled. Oxygen, light, heat, and microbial activity may alter formulations over time, creating by-products that compromise barrier function and tolerance.
For this reason, corneotherapy does not use “natural vs synthetic” as a quality marker. The focus is purity, stability, concentration, and physiological compatibility with the skin barrier.

Successful skin care starts with accurate diagnosis, not assumptions or first impressions.
Visual assessment and client perception don’t always reflect the true state of the skin barrier. Hydration, sebum, pH, elasticity, and TEWL provide more objective data.
Immediate comfort after product application can be misleading and does not guarantee long-term barrier repair. Some products may feel pleasant at first but fail to support regeneration over time.

Skin is often taught as a series of layers, but structure alone does not explain function.
Corneotherapy emphasizes how skin structure directly influences permeability, tolerance, inflammation, and recovery. When structure is disrupted, even well-intended treatments can lead to setbacks.
Corneotherapy by dermaviduals®US places structural understanding at the foundation of treatment planning, reinforcing why restraint, sequencing, and recovery time are essential for long-term success.

Corneotherapy is an outside-in approach.
It prioritizes restoring the stratum corneum, allowing secondary skin responses to improve as the barrier recovers.
Unlike inside-out strategies, it places barrier integrity at the center of skin function and treatment response.
It supports the skin as a system, not just a collection of symptoms.

Many professionals feel frustrated by education that prioritizes protocols without explaining the reasoning behind them.
Corneotherapy by dermaviduals®US was developed to address that gap.
It is grounded in decades of research on skin structure, barrier organization, ingredient chemistry, and biological response. The goal is not memorization, but understanding.
When you understand why skin behaves the way it does, decision-making becomes clearer, safer, and more consistent, particularly when working with compromised or reactive skin.

One of the key principles of Corneotherapy is that not all skincare products support the skin barrier, even if they seem effective in the short term.
Certain ingredients can disrupt barrier repair and increase irritation, especially in compromised skin, with damage often accumulating over time.
Corneotherapy prioritizes formulations that support the skin’s natural repair processes rather than creating temporary surface effects - especially when treating dry, sensitive, inflamed, or barrier-impaired skin.

For years, the skin barrier was overlooked despite its essential role in skin health and protection.
Today, we understand that the stratum corneum plays a key role in inflammation, sensitivity, and recovery. When the barrier is compromised, skin becomes more reactive. When supported correctly, skin can function more effectively.
Corneotherapy places barrier repair and protection at the center of treatment decisions.
