POWDER IS NOT THE PROBLEM.

I recently had a client tell me she didn’t want any powder bc it settles in her creases. But here is my five cents as a makeup artist—

The goal isn’t to avoid powder. The goal is to know HOW, WHERE, WHEN and HOW MUCH powder to use.

If you want your makeup to last for hours and hours of wear (especially for special events) through sweat, humidity, transfer - powder is your friend!

Until your cream products are set, foundation, concealer, cream blush, etc, they will remain tacky and movable.

Powder is what helps add that dry down layer so your makeup is 10 times less likely to move on or off your face.

And no, that doesn’t mean you have to bake your whole face with a thick layer of powder.

The technique and the tools make a huge difference.

A powder puff is going to pick up and deposit powder in a way that will give you a more concentrated set in place finish aka baking. A powder brush will give you a soft, diffused “dusting” of powder effect.

And don’t forget- setting sprays play an important role here too! Some of the first makeup sprays ever created were used to settle the powders back into the makeup to help the finish look less powdery.

So if you’re thinking, “But I want my makeup to look dewy!”

You can still powder.

If you’re thinking, “But powder makes me look cakey!”

You can still powder.

The answer isn’t to skip the powder. It’s to learn how to use it properly. When you understand how to apply it, it can smooth texture, set and extend wear, and if anything, PREVENT your makeup from settling in fine lines and creases.

So yeah, set your face girlfriend!
