Special Makeup Effects is so much more than slapping things on. The makeup is PART OF the story! So what story are you trying to tell?

Personally, this is actually my favorite part of my job 🧠📝

While you’re still in concept development, ask questions. Let’s take injuries & wounds right. What caused it? Where did it happen? What was the environment? What was the character doing? How fresh or old is it? Etc.

Those answers will determine every bruise, scrape, tear, burn, and drop of blood that gets placed. I promise you there’s a difference between a wound thats drenched in random blood and a wound that has the correct blood color, viscosity and spatter direction integrated because you took the time to ask questions. SO BE INTENTIONAL!

It’s all part of the character’s history! Always keep that in mind. And if we’ve done our job, the audience will understand that history before a word is ever spoken.

One day my daughter googled me in class, & told her classmates “that’s my mom”. She told me their response was “that’s not your mom, that looks like a famous person” lmao. I was like WAIT WHAT 😂. So fast forward…. when she told me her school was doing a career day I HAD to show up.

There were so many remarks, comments, & questions. Here are a few that I remember:

“Can you do my makeup tomorrow?”
“Can you make me braces?”
“My grandpa showed me Jeepers Creepers”
“Can I keep this clay?”
“Can you teach me how to do that?”
“My favorite movie is scream 7”
“Did you do Michael Jacksons makeup?”
“I have a Terrifier mask”
“Can you come to my birthday party?”
“Have you ever met Beyonce?”
“Your presentation was my favorite”
