💭 Devotional

This is such a short verse, but there is something powerful in its simplicity:

The people rested.

God had provided the manna. He had given His instructions. Now His people had a choice, continue searching and gathering, or trust Him enough to stop.

Rest required faith.

That is still true for us. Biblical rest isn’t simply doing nothing. It is an acknowledgment that God is sufficient even when we are not working.

The Sabbath gives us an opportunity to loosen our grip on the things we spend six days trying to manage. For a little while, we can stop producing, planning, fixing, and worrying and simply enjoy being in the presence of God.

And every time we do, we’re practicing something much greater.

We are learning to live as people who believe God’s promises.

One day, God will make all things new. Until then, every Sabbath offers us a small glimpse of the peace, security, worship, and fellowship we anticipate in His coming kingdom.

So today, let us rest and trust the One who never stops caring for us.

Father, teach us how to truly rest in You. Help us release the things we cannot control and trust Your loving care. As we enjoy this Sabbath, deepen our faith and prepare our hearts for the day when You make all things new. Amen.
