Mr. Gilley ✨

A little mid-summer freshen up for this little painted cutie.

😎 This cool kid got a full clip with a leg blend and got his mane tidied up too.

✂️ Gilley was clipped with my KMC+ which is always my number one go-to. His legs were blended down with the Bravura 2.

Little Pippy! 🎀

📸 Pip enjoyed her clippy clip yesterday and was a perfect model for me afterwards.

📆 Pip has been getting clipped for almost a full year now since moving here from Texas and she stays on a 6 week schedule so we can stay ahead of her comfort.

💧Unfortunately, Pip has Anhidrosis which is a fancy way of saying that she can’t sweat. She gets overheated very easily so, clipping helps to give her body a break and some relief from the heat before she reaches a state of heat stress. By clipping her frequently, Pip is able to maintain an appropriate body temperature thus, keeping her comfortable and allowing her to manage the heat in a much more healthier manner.

🩷She is just the cutest and most perfect little girl.

Say it with me friends: Clipping horses is a medical necessity. 🗣️

🍄 Fungal and bacterial infections of the skin can either be localized to a specific area OR in severe cases like this, it can cover the entirety of the horse. Clipping is the best way to expedite healing and to provide effective treatment.

🔥 A coat like this is a breeding ground for infections to develop and spread like wildfire. Skin that is being suffocated by a coat as thick as this, will not be able to breathe or properly heal and can eventually turn systemic should any breaks in the skin occur.

⚠️ It is also important to note that there are instances where you should NOT clip a leg that is full of fungus so, do use caution and if you’re unsure, ask your vet! This was not one of those and this horse greatly benefited from a full clip. Her fungus cleared up within a few short weeks with appropriate care and treatment.

That is all. 💁🏻‍♀️

When done correctly, clipping can:

⬇️Reduce the occurrence of fungal and bacterial infections of the skin.

💦 Allow horses to sweat more efficiently vs working in overdrive to keep cool.

🌡️ Allow horses to regulate their body temperature in a more healthy manner vs cooking themselves under a full coat and suffering from heat-related emergencies.

🙅🏻‍♀️ Prevent the onset of Anhidrosis.

📋 Be a part of a treatment plan for Anhidrosis.

💨 Help horses with respiratory complications.

💈Help horses with Cushing’s Disease.

🐎 Keep horses of all occupations comfortable while in work.

There are so many benefits to clipping that I could keep going but, this covers the important stuff!

🩷 How has clipping helped your horse?
Let me know in the comments!
