What’s really hiding behind the word “Fragrance”?

One of the biggest surprises for many people is that “Fragrance” (or “Parfum”) on a skincare label isn’t actually one ingredient. It’s a legal term that can represent a proprietary blend of multiple fragrance chemicals that manufacturers generally aren’t required to disclose individually.

That’s why I don’t use synthetic fragrance in my formulations.

As a Master’s-trained Chinese Medicine practitioner, trained herbalist, former military medic, and holistic nutritionist, I’ve chosen a different standard—one based on transparency. When I scent a product, I use named botanical ingredients like essential oils and hydrosols that you can actually identify, research, and understand.
