🍅 They’re finally on their way!

After a lot of waiting (and a little patience), our organically grown Brads Atomic Grape and Black Strawberry heirloom cherry tomatoes are finally beginning to ripen! 🌱

These aren’t your average cherry tomatoes. They’re packed with incredible flavor, gorgeous colors, and are some of our favorite varieties to grow each season.

Since they’re just starting to come in, quantities will be very limited at first. We’ll have small harvests this weekend, with more becoming available as the plants continue to ripen.

If you’ve been looking forward to trying these unique heirloom tomatoes, be sure to stop by the farmstand early. They won’t last long!

At almost 57 years old, I did something this year that I had never done before. I entered a few of my homemade farm stand items in the open class at the Ingham County fair.

To be honest, I didn’t expect to place at all. I simply thought it would be a fun experience and a chance to see how my baked goods and preserves stacked up against other talented local makers.

Imagine my surprise when my Lemon Meringue Pie Cookies earned a blue ribbon in the cookie category, my Lemon Zucchini Bread earned a blue ribbon in the quick bread category, and my Wild Black Raspberry Jam earned a blue ribbon AND Best in Show in the jams and jellies category!

One of the unexpected highlights of the day was meeting another local farm stand owner while we were both searching for our entries. We ended up helping each other find our items, taking photos for one another, and sharing stories about our farm stands. She was such a kind and genuine person, and it reminded me that some of the best parts of these events are the connections and friendships that are made along the way. BIG THANKS to Little Bitty Farmstand for taking my pics!

This experience wasn’t just about ribbons. It was about stepping outside my comfort zone, trying something new, meeting wonderful people, and receiving recognition for the time, care, and quality that go into everything I make for The Rusty Rake Homestead.

I am incredibly grateful and honestly a little flabbergasted by the results!

What do you get when blackberries, blueberries, jalapeños, and bourbon walk into a bar?

A Bar Fight.

That’s literally what we named this jam, and if you’ve ever wondered why, here’s the story…

If you’ve ever been in a bar fight (or at least watched one in a movie), chances are you’re going to end up:

🫐 Black & Blue — thanks to the blackberries and blueberries

🌶️ A Little Spicy — courtesy of the powdered jalapeños

🥃 Mixed Up with Bourbon — flavor only, thanks to the bourbon extract

The result is a sweet, smoky, slightly spicy jam that punches WAY above its weight class. It’s one of our biggest fan favorites among foodies, yet somehow it’s still one of the most underrated jars in the farm stand.

Start with your favorite bread. Add shaved turkey, crispy bacon, creamy brie, and a generous layer of Bar Fight Jam. If you’re feeling brave, throw on some fresh or pickled jalapeños. Then grill it until golden brown and melty.
