BEFORE ➡️ AFTER 🌸✨

Cancer treatments can cause significant changes to the nails, including onychdystrophy (nail dystrophy)—changes in the nail’s color, thickness, texture, and growth. Depending on the treatment, nails may become darker, thickened, brittle, cracked, lifted, or may temporarily stop growing.

In the first photo, you can see that the nails had already been filed down very low prior to her appointment. My role was to work with what was present and carefully create a more polished, comfortable appearance.

✨ A note for fellow nail professionals:
When working with nails that have been altered by medical treatment, please be extremely cautious. These are not always “normal” nail plates, and aggressive filing or unnecessary trauma can cause further damage to the nail plate or nail bed.

If the remaining nail is healthy enough for enhancement, gently smoothing the surface may be appropriate before applying acrylic or another enhancement—but how much you can safely remove matters. When in doubt, it’s better to preserve the natural nail and refer the client to a qualified medical professional for concerns outside of your scope.

For me, this service was about more than making her toes look pretty.

She has gone through changes that she never asked for, and I was given the opportunity to help her feel beautiful, cared for, and confident in her feet again.

Sometimes beauty services are about so much more than beauty. 💞
