I am so lucky to have been able to experience this with Dory.
Myofascial Release can sometimes result in “unwinding”, a neuromuscular response where the body moves spontaneously and involuntarily as a way to let go of the tension and restrictions stored in the fascia. Because all fascia is connected, seemingly unrelated body parts may start to release as well, as we see here with Dory’s legs moving after a release technique done on her hyoid.
Prior to her current owner, Dory was a competitive harness horse, and her breed is typically tongue-tied in competition. Although she’s currently living her best and most spoiled life, her body still holds on to her past career, both physically and emotionally. Traumas from years prior can still impact the body in profound ways.
Unwinding can only happen in horses when they feel true physical and emotional safety, and it is a true testament to her current owner that she felt able to be in such a vulnerable state in front of complete strangers.
I will never forget this beautiful moment with Dory, and will be forever thankful that she shared it with me. 🌻

Feeling so grateful today for the amazing teachers - both human and equine - who made my ten days in Connecticut studying Myofascial Release so life-changing.
Learning from the best in the field, Ruth Mitchell-Golladay, along with her TA Rebecca Maurice and her amazing herd of horses was such an honor and a privilege, and I’m so excited to bring what I’ve learned back to Maryland to my clients.
Continuing education is one of the most important parts of being a bodyworker. This is a profession where you never stop learning, and there is nothing more important than carving out time to slow down, be intentional, and absorb all you can from the opportunities you are given. Our knowledge of horses is constantly changing, and not staying up-to-date and consistently adding to your toolbox is a disservice to the horse.
While there is still an involved and challenging externship standing between me and my EEMFR certification, I cannot wait to start incorporating these techniques into my practice and seeing the difference Myofascial Release can make in your horse. Myofascial Release perfectly encapsulates my entire MO - blending empathy, emotion, and intuition with science-backed techniques to address the whole horse: mind, body, and spirit.✨🌙

Somatics is for humans too!
Only horse people would be thrilled to lay on the barn floor and get a Hanna Somatics session after their horses…
I love doing Somatics with riders, they can feel exactly what their horses feel, and start realigning their own posture!
(And Miranda the cat was happy to join in this “Cat Stretch”!)
