The Walmart Home Office water feature, designed in collaboration with is nearly complete and open to the public!

Fluidity collaborated with Marlon Blackwell Architects to design six parallel planes visually assembled to suggest the outline of a traditional American barn. Each of the taut planes are formed of steel members enclosing open areas. Numerous ‘water pendants’ are regularly spaced within these open areas. The groups of pendants are zoned, high and low, relating to automatic responses to changing winds. Water trickles from the top to the bottom to splash into flush, linear pools. The integrated lighting scheme is designed to highlight the structure.

Our intention is to design water features that align with our clients mission and scope. work is firmly rooted in a geo-spatial aesthetic that honors themes of agricultural landscape. Materials, light design and color are implemented to reflect structures familiar to the community and enhance spatial experiences. We are grateful to work on this project. ⛲️Fluidity was delighted and honored to work with on an immersive play water feature for their project ‘Exploration Place’. If you are in Wichita,Kansas, go check it out!

We love designing water features to be visually beautiful and reflective of natural landscapes. This design incorporates play features to inspire wonder and the science of water. Exotic form streaming jets, physics-teaching water play devices and tumbling cascades connect to hilltop wellsprings with beautifully integrated plantings by and a grand receiving pond.

Experience the sparkle of golden hour highlighting the cascades as you end your day or venture at night to see how light and fog play into this feature.

We were pleased to learn that Downtown Cary Park was recognized with the top honor in Urban Design in Fastcompany’s Innovation by Design awards. Fluidity was pleased to play our part in the design of several new water features for the park and the restoration of the existing Frantz Square water feature. We are honored to learn that the Helios Education Foundation received Outstanding Award for Built Commercial Landscape Design from World Landscape Architecture.

Fluidity joined the team with Colwell Shelor to complete the central water feature, an oculus feature which connects the roof to the parking area via a cylindrical composition of stainless steel chains that guide the downward-flowing water into a pair of circular pools.

Fountain Appreciation Friday ⛲️

Designed by prolific Australian Architect Robert Woodward, the fountain in the center of the court of the New South Wales Parliament building was built in 1983. Water Flows between the strands at the apex, stretching outward in all directions to fall from the tips of the bowed metal strands and rain gently into the pool. The reflection pool conveys the action more than anything else, with low waves flowing outward from the sculpture to the infinity-edged perimeter.

We are pleased to offer this invitation to join us for a special book talk, where Jim Garland will share images and ideas from his recent publication, Fountain Safari - an encyclopedic overview of 21 centuries of world-wide water feature design evolution.

The materials will be presented at Longwood Gardens... in the beautiful, new event space, The Fountain Room.

A master class in water design.

Longwood Gardens has invited acclaimed fountain designer, Jim Garland, to teach an online lecture series on how to design with water exploring key design principles including space analysis, purpose, design, engineering, and construction. Thursday evenings from August 7 - September from 6-8pm Eastern.

Please join us as Jim provides an overview of Fountain Safari, surveying brilliant works built over twenty-one centuries upon the land areas of five continents.

Great water features are anatomically organized into synergetic systems of water display, where each element interacts meaningfully with each other. All expressions are of significant quality, functioning together in harmony. It is from this synergetic complexity that water design becomes rich, efficient, and alive.

We build water features to express water’s availability to us and to celebrate the life it supports. The human spirit is a great and sensitive thing, and water expression ties directly into that realm of experience.
