It’s a Ina Garten October, who’s with me? 🎃🧙♀️
Those who get it, get it… (& can we please just get our HRT?! This is ridiculous)
Yesterday I joined ABC’s Kyra Phillips to talk about the Cornell 7. Roughly 1 in 3 undergraduates experience SA, and about 50% of survivors end up leaving their school or workplace because staying becomes unbearable. Too often, survivors who speak up are the ones who pay the price. They lose their community, their sense of safety, and the support they were promised, while the people who hurt them get to stay. Jane Doe did not feel safe anymore, left Cornell, and never finished her degree. This kind of institutional betrayal can deepen the trauma itself. Jane deserved better.
These were highly educated young men. This is what happens when boys grow up without strong role models showing them that respecting and protecting women is part of being a man. When those role models are missing, the manosphere is more than happy to fill the gap, teaching boys that dominance and disrespect actually make them men.
As a feminist mother raising two young boys, I take my part seriously. But mothers can’t carry this alone. Schools, institutions, and men need to step up. We shouldn’t have to do this alone 👏

I really would love to know where that energy has gone… You cannot call yourself a “protector” and only protect other men 👏

As a mom of five, the questions this case raises about student safety hit home.
What happens after a student reports sexual violence matters. The support they receive matters. The fairness of the investigation and the decisions that follow matter.
This breaks down the allegations in the Cornell 7 civil lawsuit, the reported disciplinary consequences, and Cornell’s response. Follow along in stories for me of a deep dive of this case. This is unacceptable for ANY university - and let's not forget Cornell University is an Ivy League school. Clearly that doesn't matter.
Students and families deserve clear information - and students who report harm deserve dignity, compassion, and care.
Save this breakdown and share it with someone who wants to understand and follow the Cornell 7 case.
Tell me your thoughts in the comments!
