Inspiring, cultivating, and activating a spirit of giving amongst Black, aspiring philanthropist and change agents | Founder Ciara Coleman

10/01/2026

We’re grateful to Foundation for the Mid South for investing in Geaux Girl Giving and our work to move resources, build community, and create spaces where Black women and girls are supported, connected, and positioned to lead.

This support matters because Black women-led organizations remain deeply under-resourced, even as they do some of the most essential work in our communities. At GGG, we’re working to change that by building a philanthropic ecosystem rooted in capital, community, care, and capacity.

Investments like this allow us to deepen our work across Louisiana and the South, strengthen Black women-led organizations, and continue shifting the narrative of who is a philanthropist, whose leadership deserves investment, and who gets to shape the future of our communities.

For Black Philanthropy Month, we didn’t just celebrate Black giving. We practiced it.

From moving resources through our G5 Campaign and welcoming new grantees, to gathering in Martha’s Vineyard, centering rest and wellness, and creating conversations about narrative, legacy, and the power of Black philanthropy, we spent the month doing what GGG does best: moving resources, building community, centering care, and telling our own stories.

And because of our community, we closed the month having distributed $15,000 to Black women-led organizations across Louisiana.

Black philanthropy doesn’t begin or end in August. It lives in how we give, gather, care, and invest in one another all year long.

This Black Philanthropy Month, our G5 Campaign rallied our community to invest in Black women and girls across Louisiana. Today, we’re proud to announce the newest organizations receiving funding because of that collective generosity.

Congratulations to our newest GGG awardees!

2. Madam CJ Walker - a self made millionaire who gave at every step of the way
3. LaTosha Brown LaTosha Brown - a resource mobilizer shifting resources and building Black power

The Legacy House was created to celebrate the everyday philanthropists and changemakers who have always invested in our communities, often without recognition, applause, or the title of “philanthropist.”

Because long before philanthropy became an institution, it lived in our homes, our neighborhoods, and our traditions.

We believe those stories deserve to be remembered.

And more importantly, they deserve to continue.

Still not over it! Reminiscing on the joy, wisdom and love that was in the room at our Welcome Social.

Thank you, again to our host and amazing panelists and Kieta for sharing their expertise and insights on what’s needed for Black women to thrive. We hit it all - sexual health, maternal health, and wellbeing because all of these work in concert.

Special thank you to our host
Food vendors x Media team and Lead event sponsor provided our speakers with beautiful curated bags from her store and crafted a special room spray for our guests.
