Watermelon is made up of more than 90% water, making it one of the most hydrating fruits you can eat. Consuming it in the morning, especially on an empty stomach, can help replenish fluids after sleep and support overall hydration throughout the day.

The fruit also contains vitamin C, vitamin A, and antioxidants such as Lycopene, which may help protect cells from oxidative stress and support healthy-looking skin. Proper hydration combined with these nutrients can contribute to a fresher and more radiant appearance over time.

Claims that watermelon “removes toxins” are often stated, since the body already has natural detox systems through the liver and kidneys.

Watermelon is also relatively low in calories and provides natural sugars along with electrolytes, making it a refreshing choice during warm weather or after physical activity.

Including water-rich fruits like watermelon as part of a balanced diet can support hydration, nutrient intake, and general health without relying on extreme wellness claims.

More than 1,100 years ago, a printer in China created a book that would outlive entire empires.

On May 11, 868 CE, the Diamond Sutra was completed during China’s Tang Dynasty. Today, it is recognized as the world’s oldest surviving dated printed book.

Not handwritten. Printed.

Centuries before Johannes Gutenberg’s press transformed Europe, Chinese printers were already carving entire pages into wooden blocks, coating them with ink, and pressing them onto paper with remarkable precision.

The Diamond Sutra is over 16 feet long (4.9 meters) and contains Buddhist teachings about perception, reality, and impermanence. At the end of the scroll is a printed date stating exactly when it was made — giving historians one of the clearest timestamps in the history of printing.

What makes the story even stranger is where it was found.

In 1900, a hidden cave near Dunhuang in western China was opened after being sealed for centuries. Inside were tens of thousands of manuscripts, paintings, and documents preserved in the dry desert air.

Among them was the Diamond Sutra.

The scroll had survived more than 1,000 years in darkness.

Today, it sits inside the British Library in London — nearly 5,000 miles (8,000 km) from where it was created.

The book survived dynasties, wars, environmental decay, and the collapse of entire civilizations.

America just lost one of its oldest lions 💔

Her name was Shera.

Born at a private reserve in South Africa in 2004, Shera arrived at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, D.C., as a young lioness in 2006 alongside her sister Nababiep and a male lion named Luke.

Over the next two decades, she became the quiet matriarch of the zoo’s lion pride.

Shera raised eight cubs of her own, helped care for nieces and nephews, and eventually left behind nearly 50 descendants now living in zoos across the United States.

Keepers described her as intelligent, independent, observant, and deeply food-motivated — a “Queen Bee” whose presence shaped generations of lions and zoo staff alike.

But in recent years, age began catching up with her.

At 21 years old, Shera had become one of the two oldest lions living in accredited zoos in the United States — an extraordinary age for a species where wild lions often live only 10 to 14 years.

Like many elderly lions, Shera suffered from severe osteoarthritis, a degenerative disease that slowly made movement more difficult. Though veterinarians successfully managed much of her pain, keepers noticed she had become increasingly unsure on stairs, rocks, and elevated areas inside her habitat.

Zoo officials said the decision to euthanize Shera was made carefully and long before she reached a point of debilitating suffering.

Her care team monitored her health closely for years, using voluntary blood draws, injections, and medical training that Shera willingly participated in throughout her life.

“She’s a very tough lion,” one keeper wrote. “But her body is no longer able to keep up.”

Perhaps the most heartbreaking part of the story is that Shera was not simply an aging zoo animal.

She had become family to the people who cared for her.

Keepers spoke about “spoiling her every day” during her final years and wanting to give her “the care and dignity she deserves” before her quality of life declined further.

In the wild, lions rarely get the privilege of growing old.

Shera did.

Men’s health plays a far greater role in conception than many realize. New research reveals that men should avoid alcohol for at least three months before trying to have a child. The reason lies in how alcohol directly impacts spe*m. Studies show that alcohol can damage spe*m DNA, lowering its quality and increasing the risk of passing genetic harm to the baby.

This damage can result in serious consequences. Scientists link paternal alcohol consumption with fetal growth problems, higher chances of birth defects, and long-term health complications for the child. Since spe*m take about three months to fully develop, this window is crucial. By abstaining during this time, men give their bodies the chance to produce healthier s***m with stronger DNA integrity.

The responsibility of conception does not rest solely on women. Fathers-to-be play a vital role in giving their future children the best possible start in life. Just as mothers are advised to avoid harmful substances during pregnancy, men should take equal care before conception.

Avoiding alcohol, improving diet, staying active, and reducing stress all contribute to healthier spe*m and higher fertility. These steps not only boost the chances of successful conception but also protect the lifelong health of the child.

What may seem like a small sacrifice of three months can make an enormous difference in shaping the well-being of future generations. Science is clear, when it comes to bringing new life into the world, both parents’ choices matter.
