It’s Scoliosis Awareness Month, so I wanted to share a little bit of my story 🤍

I was diagnosed in 5th grade after my gymnastics coach noticed the muscles in my back were uneven. Soon after, I was fitted for a brace and wore it 23.5 hours a day. Despite years of bracing, my curves continued to progress, and when I was 13, spinal fusion surgery was recommended.

The summer before 8th grade, my spine was fused. I was determined not to let scoliosis define me, and within six months I was back on the dance floor competing with my team and continued dancing through college.

Since then, I’ve gone on to have three babies (although the epidural didn’t work completely with my fusion 😆), and I continue to prioritize movement and core strength through yoga, Pilates, and strength training.

Today, I can honestly say I’m proud of my scar. Scoliosis hasn’t stopped me from doing anything—except maybe a backbend. This journey challenged me in ways I never expected, but it also revealed a strength I didn’t know I had. If you’re navigating scoliosis, I hope you know how strong you are and that it doesn’t have to define what you’re capable of ✨
