Do you understand the different phases and “weeks” of your menstrual cycle? I’ve used the hormone horoscope app for the past year to really help me understand where different hormone levels are at during different times of my cycle and how those dips and peaks make me feel. It has been a game changer for me to have a visual of it all! Anyone else use that app? Anything else helpful to you? This post is not sponsored by the app- it’s just something that had made a huge difference to me understanding my body and how my pmdd symptoms pop up and why! For example I didn’t know how absolutely horrible high progesterone makes me feel and now I totally know why I feel the way I do and can calendar for it and plan even better!

1. Change your pad every 4 hours.
Even when the flow is low, don't use a pad for longer than 8 hours. I personally HATE commercial pads. They cause me so much trouble (rash + irritation). I will never go back to using them no matter what. Cloth pads for the win!
2. Times are changing, we must too. Explore options like menstrual cups and cloth pads. These options save your money by 90%, are eco-friendly and keep you away from toxic shock syndrome.
If have the access, try period underwears.
3. Stay away from vaginal cleansers and viral douches since they cause more problems than good.
4. Dispose used pads safely. Many rag pickers, animals and municipality workers rummage through the dumpyards. Touching old used pads is not safe for anyone.
5. Do not believe in myths such as such as tampons and cups are only women who have delivered a child or sexually active. Any menstruating woman can use cups and tampons.
6. Shower regularly. Due to the current work from home situation, many women might delay bathing. Shower twice a day even when at home for the best hygiene, even against COVID.
7. Learn yoga and other wellness techniques to keep PMS at bay. If your PMS get's worse, see a doctor without fail.
8. See a gynecologist atleast once an year for a general checkup to keep any cysts or abnormalities at bay. Early detection is the best way to recover from any issue.
9. Educate young girls beforehand about periods to avoid any anxiety and confusion in them.
10. Constantly educate yourself about latest gynecology health news, sanitation facilities, disposal methods, period products, etc so that you are aware of everything going on.
