The habit to add before IVF, not give up: sleep.

Hormone signals reset at night. You do not need perfect sleep β€” you need most of your nights back, for about three months before a cycle.

Stop being told to "just relax."

Stress is a biological input, not a character flaw. You cannot remove the stressors β€” you can train the recovery: sleep, movement, breath, sharing the load.

You can prepare for IVF without turning the next three months into a fertility prison.

Somewhere along the way, pre-IVF preparation became a list of 40 rules. No coffee. No sugar. No travel. No joy, apparently.

That is not what the evidence asks of you.

Preparation is corrective, not restrictive. It means identifying the handful of exposures and habits that plausibly matter for your situation and adjusting those, while you keep attending birthday parties, drinking your coffee, and living your life.

A couple making 3 smart, sustained changes for 90 days is in a better position than a couple white-knuckling 40 rules for 2 weeks and burning out.

What actually deserved to be given up β€” and what never did?

The coffee. The w**e. His b**r night. The free guide puts an honest, cited label on every restriction you were handed β€” and the short list actually worth keeping, for both of you.

Both partners contribute genetic material to the embryo. So why is preparation still so often focused on only one?

In the roughly 90 days before a cycle, her eggs are completing their final maturation. His s***m are being built from scratch. Two biological processes, running on the same clock, in the same window.

And yet pre-IVF preparation usually lands on one set of shoulders. Her supplements. Her diet. Her stress.

Same window. Same clock. Same team.

Should he get tested after a failed transfer?

A DFI test is worth asking about after: a chemical pregnancy or early loss, embryos arresting between day 3 and 5, a cycle labeled "unexplained," or a normal semen analysis β€” which does not measure the DNA inside the s***m.

One number. Both partners. The same window. Link in first comment.

Why do embryos stop growing at day 5?

Day 1 runs on the egg's energy. Around day 3, his genome switches on. By day 5, arrest can appear β€” embryos that looked perfect on day 3 can stop when the paternal genome starts doing real work. Repeated day-3-to-5 arrest is a reason to ask about a DFI test. Not a verdict.

Was it my egg quality? Not always.

Every embryo is built from both β€” 50% hers, 50% his. When a cycle fails, both halves deserve the same look, including the DNA inside the s***m.

It's not always the egg.

When a cycle fails, the search for answers usually stays on her side. Her eggs. Her age. Her lining. But half of every embryo's genetic material is his β€” and from day 3, the embryo's own genome activates and the paternal contribution starts doing real work.

The egg can be mature and graded excellent, and a high DFI (s***m DNA fragmentation) still goes unmeasured, because a standard semen analysis does not test for it.

You were never the whole story.

Before another cycle, ask whether both partners have been evaluated during the same biological window.

What has been associated with s***m DFI β€” check here: https://cycledecoded.com/what-did-you-give-up-for-ivf/

Is a chemical pregnancy my fault? No.

Very early losses happen after the embryo's own genome takes over β€” half his, half hers. High DNA fragmentation has been associated with early loss in studies. Your coffee did not do this. Neither did you.
