It's not uncommon for a patient to say "I don't know" when I ask what testing they had done. Needless to say, having a patient who knows what that test looked for, and equally as important what it didn't look for, is even less common.

I get that genetic counseling isn't main stream. While advances in the field of genetics are being made at record breaking speed, advances in genetic counseling are not.

So while it's probably still unlikely that you will talk with a genetic counselor, at the very least ASK QUESTIONS to the healthcare providers you are seeing.
