Sunflowers display mathematical patterns in the arrangement of their seeds, primarily using the Fibonacci sequence and the Golden Ratio. The seeds grow in interlocking, curving spirals. If you count the clockwise and counter-clockwise spirals, you will always get consecutive numbers from the sequence (e.g., 34 and 55, or 55 and 89).The Mathematics Behind the Pattern The Fibonacci Sequence: This is a mathematical progression where each number is the sum of the preceding two: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, and so on. In a typical sunflower, there are usually 34 spirals winding in one direction and 55 in the other.The Golden Angle: Each new seed is generated in the center and moves outward. To pack the seeds as densely and efficiently as possible, the plant rotates each successive seed by approximately 137.5°, an angle derived from the Golden Ratio (φ ≈ 1.61803).Optimization: This exact angle and spiral arrangement prevent overlapping and overcrowding, allowing the sunflower to fit the maximum number of seeds without leaving any empty dead space.”

Meet Gnomi Wyda our new mascot~ Gnomi helped us check the hives for honey production today. We still have 2 maybe 4 weeks for the bees to make capped honey. All the rain earlier this year diluted what nectar had been available for them to make honey. While we may not have lots or sadly any honey to sell this year, the girls will not starve this summer 🐝❤️🐝
